    Hi,
Been looking into becoming a paramedic the last few months and have read all the threads about the HSE and how you have to be excepted in Ireland and all that. However i'm moving to Queensland in September and my question is, would doing the EMT course in ireland privately before i leave allow me to upskill in OZ.
Apoligys if this question is elsewhere in the threads but i did search!
I have Occupational first aid an have worked in the First Aid room in a busy nightclub for a year and a half.
    Thanks in advance!

Not sure about the conversion process from Ireland to Oz but if it was me I'd just wait and do it over there seeing as your're going anyway. Just incase there is any complications with the Irish EMT when u go over!

The paramedic training is run through 3rd level colleges over there, its done either through the Queensland University of Technology or the South Bank institute of technology. There are a couple of Irish paramedics with the Queensland Ambulance Service, I'm pretty sure at least one of them trained at home and moved over.

In Australia Ambos both male and female are classed as extremely hot.

    If that helps your decision?

Zambia, in future please do not make such sweeping statements as the one above without providing some reference to back up your point.

I made an inquiry 2 years ago and this is what I received.

Thank you for your interest in St John Ambulance Western Australia, to be eligible to apply for the Student Ambulance Officer position you will need to have Permanent Residency or Australian Citizenship.

There are also a number of other requirements as stated in our information pack for Student Ambulance Officers. Should you be successful in your application for the above role any prior studies/qualifications relevant to the course you may have studied towards will be reviewed to see if you are eligible for prior learning

Please visit www.stjohnambulance.com.au for further updates and information packs.

    Regards,

    Human Resources Department

The first year is unpaid and all College attendance. Second year is paid ambulance and hospital placements and after that you are assigned to full active ambulance duty. (probational for 12 months)
Certain courses here are recognized but you'll have to wait until they evaluate what you have done before they will rule on whether you are entitled to credit. Depending on what you have done some of the college work may be bypassed. Plenty of info on the website. Good luck with whatever you decide.
    Regards,
    Dobber :D

I was chatting to an MAS Victoria Ambo on Monday and he reckons plenty of positions as retention for them is an average of 5 years.

Which is pretty short considering its three years in college prior to getting in.

Sorry he didn't really seem keen on the Photo idea I did try...
