Hey guys, whats up? New poster hear, friend told me about this, looks pretty neat. I have a question. I've been given a 5,000 word assignment to write but I've never actually written something that long before. I was just wondering how much time I ought to give myself researching and writing it?

    peace out hombres

    Welcome to the forum :)

At 5,000 words I'd say begin as soon as possible. Between starting researching and finishing writing I can do a 2,000-word assignment in a week [but I wouldn't recommend that!] So I'd say 3 weeks total at the very minimum, but that's just me; we all work differently so I can't speak for how you work out an assignment

Start now. Better to get it started and out of the way before exams. When writing 5,000 word essays I divide it in to 3 smaller essays with their own topics, and then divide the smaller essays in to 3 500 word paragraphs. Then add the intro and conclusion. Generally takes me a week of proper research and then 2 weeks of research and writing (maybe 3/4 days a week or so) and then a day or two of finishing touches and proof reading and checking the bibliography. Best bet is to start when you get it, you never know what could happen in the mean time that can hamper you getting it completed on time.

I'd echo the others and recommend starting as soon as you can. The research can take a good while to do for long essays, especially if you may need to use primary sources that mightn't be easily accessible e.g. for a history essay you might need to go into the National Library or to your local one to get stuff. The earlier you can get that done the better.

Start right now, it's a lot better to finish the assignment early and hav time to review and make changes than leaving it too late for any of that

I have 4 essays due in the next week and one of them is 5000 words too. Spending about a week on each one. I literally had no work to do from January until end of March, then everything comes at you at once :(

I'm assuming you will have exams to study for or other assignments so eh...start now? Putting sufficient effort into your research will pay off. Break it up, stick to it, & know that it will all be over soon!

About 24 hours before it's due with 6 cans of Spar's Blue Bear, unlimited supply of tea bags and some pizzas in the freezer. Just adds to the challenge really :pac: :pac: :pac:
