Ive been diagnosed as having chronic idiopathic urticaria. Basically bllod cells relaeasing histamine to attack something whcih it thinks is foregin in the body. Said histamine forms awful welts on the skins with a horrificly deep itch followed by muscle swelling making the whole thing very painful. Its an allergy to "something" so im told. Also comes with angio oedema (google it :o) had it the last 6 months and its making life hell. If anyone has any experience with this id apprciate a response. yes ive tried every prescribed anti histamine on the market, bathed in all creams and ointments. I suppose im simply looking for similar circumstances or advice on where to go with it next.

Hello, I suffer from chronic urticaria and have done for the past 5 years although it hasn't been as bad lately. I used to get an unbearable amount of lumps/hives all over my legs/arms etc. Sometimes I could wake up with a swollen lip/eye. Like you, I have had numerous blood tests and they have shown a presence of antibodies, but none can pin-point what I actually am allergic too. Unfortunately I have found no cure although each day I take an anti histamine eg. ceterine/clarinton/zirtec which keeps them at bay, if I forget to take one every few days they usually flare up again. I can tell you that for me it improved as the years went on! Hope this helps.

Thanks for that. I'm the exact same with the swelling and stuff and it doesn't go down for well over 18 hrs... 5 years is a long time I've only had it 6 months and just barely getting it under control at this stage. Thanks for replying though I feel like I'm going mad sometimes... Least I know it does exist and isn't totally stress relayed!

Indeed it does exist! And when you have a bad dose, it can drive you to a near insanity! It's an unfortunate thing to have, and from experience, it worsens with stress. Best of luck with it anyway:)

I had chronic urticaria for around 5 years , i was taking claratin .zirtec and also was on telfast and also various creams but none of these really was of any use.I had loads of blood tests but all the tests came back clear - they could see no reason why i was suffering from chronic urticaria

I used to get real bad welts all over my body my hands /feet and my eyes used to swell up from it anyway i decided after 5 years i would go to a different doctor.

New doctor put me on a course of steroid injections for 3 months of kenalog straight away on first visit ,I would get one injection every four weeks (for 3 months) then no injection for three months .
After the three months break i had another course of kenalog injections for three months.
The relief i got from the injection was immediate .

I had never suffered since from chronic urticaria - i have been free of it now with about ten years thank god, its a horrible thing to have.
