Never have I looked forward to a year in film as 2012, Hunger Games, Prometheus, TDKR, The Hobbit, Django Unchained, Total Recall.
Probably best line up in a good few years.

    Teen rubbish, prequel to a 33 year old SciFi/slasher B-movie, Comic-book sequel sequel, half a prequel, Tarantino's usual, and a remake of a 22-year-old Arnie Z-movie.

Which is all pretty inconsequential information if they turn out to be damn good movies. By most accounts The Hunger Games already has.

We get similar threads every single year without fail, and it always turns into the same back and forth about what constitutes a good year. By most accounts, every year is a great year if one looks outside the multiplexes.

Have a feeling Prometheus will have some good scenes but will be a let down overall. Lindelof being a writer is severly worrying, and Scott has had some real stinkers past 10 years. Hope I'm wrong!

    Total Recall remake looks awful!!

But we're not, so sleep tight... for now.

Really... you just called Alien a "slasher B-movie"? And "Tarantino's usual" is a Western, right?

Anyway, it's the biggest year in terms of blockbusters that I can recall, though obviously not the most original. Not that I care - bring on The Dark Knight Rises!

    Looking forward to Lincoln aswell.

Something tells me Daniel Day will be the frontrunner for the lead actor Oscar next year.

Total Recall made millions at the box office.

It made money, it just didn't make any sense.

    huh

I think you're the one not making sense

    also
    American reunion
    The Avengers
    Ted
    Battleship
    The Dictator
    Snow White and The Huntsman
    The Cabin In The Woods
    Neighborhood Watch
    The Bourne Legacy
    God Bless America
    Spider-man
    The Raid Redemption
Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World
    On The Road
    Safety Not Guaranteed
    Safe

that's just some of the films I'm looking forward to this year (also some that have already been mentioned), 2011 was only an ok year for films, there were some great films out, but honestly this time last year it looked like it was gonna be so much better than what it ended up being,

are you saying you couldn't follow an Arnold Schwarzenegger film,

You can make it make sense by saying everything after Arnie goes into the Rekall machine is all in Arnie's head.

But then none of it matters.

As long as we're all aware that Total Recall was a dumb adaptation of a moderately entertaining short story in the first place, then we can lower our expectations for the remake accordingly.

I have a feeling the same thing might happen to you this year!

I'm really looking forward to Prometheus...hopefully Ridley gets his touch back.

when i think about it, this time last year there was very little movie wise i was looking forward to. This year I cant keep up with all the films im excited to see. Now whether all these potentially great movies translates into a good year for films remains to be seen but the potential is definitely there.

Teen rubbish, Ridley Scott behind a camera again, Joss Whedon does comic books, concluding chapter to the best trilogy of the noughties Tarantino's usual (always a good thing!) , and a remake of one of Arnie's finest
    FYP :-)

Dark Knight won't be a patch on this. There, I said it :)

not a hope the dark knight rises will defiantly be film of the year imo. don't get me wrong im very much looking forward to the avengers but i think that having all them characters crammed into a 2 hour movie will be its downfall. i think it will be very rushed.

i also have very high hopes for skyfall

Nah, all the avengers got the screen time they needed and brilliant chemistry between them. I wasnt sure an avengers film could be pulled off as it deserves to be but whedon did a perfect job.

well my expectations has been raised now i also read a few very good reviews this morning aswell. but still i think the dark knight rises will be better

Well I admit im a bit biased against dark knight, didnt like the last one at all, I think bale is an awful batman. I wanted to like it so much but just didnt happen.

Really looking forward to spiderman, interested to see how the reboot does.

I reckon Bale's is the best portrayal to date, certainly the most in depth performance anyway.

With The Avengers, I'm immensely looking forward to it and I've heard about the early positive reviews, but I'm just expecting good action and good character interaction (as is Whedon's MO). That's it really.

If something is going to top TDKR, it will be Prometheus I reckon.

Personally I'd nominate 1968, great films released included; 2001, The Odd Couple, Once Upon A Time In The West, Rosemary's Baby, Where Eagles Dare, Planet of The Apes, Bullitt, If..., Performance, and The Producers.

Some real winners there (especially Once Upon a Time in the West, Where Eagles Dare and Bullitt) but, for me, 1976 is untouchable: All the President's Men, Logan's Run, Marathon Man, The Omen, The Outlaw Josey Wales, Rocky, Silver Streak, Taxi Driver.

2025 Gigs and Events: Stuart Murdoch, Lyle Lovett, Camera Obscura, The Corrs/Imelda May/Natalie Imbruglia, Olivia Rodrigo, Iron Maiden, Neil Young/Van Morrison, Dua Lipa, Lana Del Rey, Weezer, The Doobie Brothers, Billie Eilish (x2), Oasis, Sharon Van Etten, The Human League, Deacon Blue

It'll be a good year I think. Really looking forward to:

    • The Dark Knight Rises
    • Snow White & The Huntsman
    • Ted
    • Prometheus
    • Savages
    • Total Recall (with suspect hesitation but we'll see!)
    • The Bourne Legacy (was again suspect but the trailer is promising)
    • God Bless America
    • Moonrise Kingdom
    • Avengers (again, we'll see)
Loads more too. Reckon it will be a good year alright. So far I haven't been too disappointed:
    • Safe House - Really enjoyed this. Formulaic as reviewed but edge of the seat stuff nonetheless. And I didn't want to kill Ryan Reynolds afterwards. Bonus. 4/5
    • The Raven - Surprise of the year so far. Really liked it. Cusack back to form. 4/5
    • The Devil Inside - Didn't think much of this mind. A bit crap. 2/5
    • The Cabin in the Woods - Right up my alley. Ridiculous but entertaining. 4/5
    • Battleship - Cheese. Entertaining cheese. 3/5

Some excellent choices there but Logan's Run? Its pretty awful and has dated really badly (unlike 2001), its a great idea that was tackily handled. Presidents Men, Marathon Man and Taxi Driver standouts of '76 as you said.

I seem to recall more of the negative versions of this thread (Worst. Year. Ever.). I have to admit, I enjoy them more in the first half of the year. They seem more ridiculous.

That said, I think I'm looking forward to the big-budget fare more than usual this year, after a couple of relatively poor years for them (unless you're a Harry Potter fan, I understand). Perhaps I'm getting soft in my old age.
