USB ports have stopped working

The USB ports on my pc that handle my webcam, printer and the spare one that I use for plugging in usb drives have stopped working.

I'm running Windows XP and I tried the built in trouble shooter but that didn't solve the problem.

Has anyone any suggestion how to get them going again?

    Thanks

Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager

See if there's any yellow triangles beside the USB drivers towards the bottom.

All of the usb hubs state that "this device is working properly"

If its a desktop PC, worth checking/reseating any cables for ports that are not coming straight off the mobo, e.g. front panel ports. If its a PCI card, reseat that also.

I have this same problem. USB speakers on my laptop just suddenly stop working after and I need to restart. Or 2 of the 3 USBs will work but not all at the same time. And before anyone says it's virus it's not. I scan with Malwarebyte's, MSE, Iobit AWC (for reg cleaning and general system care) and HijackThis every week.

I'd suggest updating your BIOS if it's a well known / well supported computer make

Try booting from a linux cd,eg mint.
if usb ports works ,do a windows reinstall, use option, use existing format ,do not format drive, otherwise you,ll lose all data ,music etc.
there may be some files deleted, to do with usb support.IF if its a pc,
see if usb cables inside are loose.
