Portugal - Lisbon

So myself any my SO are going to a wedding in Lisbon in July and we're staying on for an extra few days for a nice wee holiday for ourselves.

She's keen to stay in Lisbon but I'd prefer to find somewhere nice along the coast. We'll be renting a car so travel isn't a problem but we want to go somewhere reasonably near Lisbon, no more than a few hours drive away. Any suggestions for nice resorts we could go to along the coast down near Lisbon?

We're not doing this on an absolute budget but don't have buckets of cash o throw at it either.

    Cheers for any advice.

I'd recommend visiting both Estoril & Sintra. They are both less then an hour north of Lisbon.

Estoril is a small beach resort that is famous for it's large casino. It has some beautiful scenery and has some of the best sea food restaurants in Portugal. It also has The Verdades-Faria Museum which displays musical instruments.

Sintra is further north up the mountains and is absolutely beautiful little town. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site and boosts some amazing castles including Pena National Palace, Castle of The Moors & Sintra National Palace.

Lisbon itself is a beautiful city though and I'd highly recommend visiting The World Expo Park and the stunning Belém district just west of the city centre.

Take a walking tour (options on Viator for example) - Lisbon is relatively easy to get round with combination of foot and tram -the tour should take in Belem, up to the castle and Alfama district.

Lisbon is a beautiful city - you'll love it.

Thanks for the replies guys. Thinking we might stay in Cascais but will definitely be trying to take in as much as we can in the whole area.
