    boar.jpg

I do not own this image or any information below, I just shared it from the Wild Deer Association of Ireland's facebook page !!
Image of a Wild Boar shot in Co Wicklow (viewer discretion is advised) Following a number of sightings of boar in West Wicklow, the NPWS advised a local farmer to shoot them on sight. Within three days of the first sighting, the boar managed to furrow up approximately one acre of ground. A Local hunter and resident, was contacted by his neighbour for assistance. They located the boar and dispatched them. The hunt was not all that difficult as they were able to get within 10/12 meters of them, indicating that they. We’re not long released. Three females and one male, all young animals. The male weighed almost 75 kgs, while the females weighed 40 kgs.

Heres the link to the facebook page

watched a documentary on them last night , australia has a terrible problem with them , it should be open season on them , they are very agressive and will eat anything

it should be open season on them

It is. They're not a protected species, so shoot away, but make sure your gear is up to the job. They're tough animals with a lot of muscle and cartilage protecting vitals, so good bullets are a good plan and a cartridge capable of punching them through big, heavy animals.

So is anyone gonna apply for a centerfire handgun, with its intended use being for protection against an attack from boar whilst out hunting deer!

I reckon the title should read "proper boar" not "proper wild boar" a they're about as wild as the black lab sitting beside me on the couch as I type.

Even if they were wild (as in gone wild).
They would still be classed as Feral.

If i release a cow does it become a wild cow?

There has been boar shot all around the country. All of them escaped/got released from farms.

There is nothing wild about them as was even said in the above article.

His ears are not that big if you compare them to the hog's

They look like and by the weight sound like they are about a year old.
So that must mean either local escapees from somplace where they had contact to humans to allow the hunter to get that close.

WB have very poor eyesight ,but exellent sense of smell and hearing, and if they were genuinely "wild" they would have been gone longtime before anyone got within 40 meters of them, and would have still been with the Sow.

Just thinking the same myself, it doesnt look like your typical deer hunting set up !!

Does look like a lot of west Wicklow though. Rifle might be yer man's driven game and big game gun too, mind.

He had a good set up for them. I see he has them both bleeded for the table. I wouldn't mind some of that in my freezer. What type of scope would that be. Post up a link if any of ye have an idea just for interest. Is there supposed to be a good field of view on them types of sights?

Its the nicest meat you'll ever taste - had it with apple sauce during a wonderfull stay in the Dordogne region of SW France a few years back.

They are Wicklow all right the NPWS ranger in the area will confirm or you can pm me and I can tell you where and name, the farmer is going nuts and wants them all shot with the damage been caused. There were 4 in total seen and he thinks they are all accounted for now!

I'd well believe it be fair tastey. I'd pay top dollar for proper wild boar meat. The lad that was out in the wild full time be the right lad to have on your plate

Would it not be nicer between 2 cuts of bread and the melting butter running off down your chin with the heat from the meat.:D:D

I shoot one at about 30 yards with a u/o using a slug and he was as wild as f*uk . if the wind is right and no noise they will come to daddy all day long. its the best shooting you will ever get and cost very little. thanks happy hunting

The Wild Boars were shot just outside Donard. The lad who shot them is "Porky" Doyle. I won't give his first name, but "Porky" is his nickname. He's a beef farmer who lives about 1km outside the village. He shot the boars for his neighbour (an elderly man with a wooden leg). This man is a suckler farmer and his farm is surrounded by forestry.
    Steyrman2 is telling the truth.
