    Hypothetical question.

If I was a professional gambler could I claim back money spent gambling against tax? What If i registered a business and claimed spendings as business expenses?

It was established in case law in 1925 that gambling winnings are not income. Hence losses are not allowable.

UK Revenue have gone into print on this. I'm not aware that Irish Revenue have, but in areas where the underlying law is either similar or identical they are unlikely to take a different view.

    It's all here.
