What are you guys using to store your watch collections?
I only have a few watches, but would like to get a display case for them.
Something with a glass lid, so I can keep my ecodrive charged. But I would like one with a drawer to keep spare straps, links, tools etc.

Anything cheap and cheerful out there?

Would only need one that holds 5 watches.

    Cheers

Thanks Buyseye1, but they are way over my budget and I didn't see a glass lid one.
Looking for a 5 watch holder for around €40-€50

I got a dirt cheap one on eBay which has done me fine. It's a plastic glass lid and fake leather, but it reflects my budget-conscious collection!

It's a bit like this one. Here's a smaller one.

It doesn't have a drawer though.

I got one off ebay a few years ago, much like this one. I remember though paying much less for it.

I believe that Lidl tea chests are highly thought of :)

The Lidl tea chest is ingenious. Great idea.
I really like the look of the boxes on Amazon that have the drawer beneath.

Look up peli cases. Cheap and very secure although if you actually want to show off your watches it may not be the best choice

Did you scroll down the page? They have a five watch box for €59.00

Yep, but none have glass lids or drawers.

You could just get a bigger watchbox and put the bits in one of the unused slots - not as tidy looking, but might give you more options.

This one is pick of the bunch at the moment, but I'm still looking !

    That's a nice one

TBH the way burglaries have gone up massively in my area of late :(:mad: (both houses either side of me in the last fortnight), my storage involves a floor safe and/or various odd places around my house, or in the room my very large and very stranger aggressive dog sleeps. I wish it was otherwise :(

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I'm not too worried. Our two dogs will make any burglars play fetch until they're too tired to steal anything.

I got that exact one last year to keep watches, straps, etc that I don't use that often.

Very good box for the price and well finished. Fast delivery.

My only gripe is that the cushions are on the small side for the compartment they are in.(ie. length and width)

Watches with leather straps tend to sit up above the cushion and any large watches can touch the glass lid. No issues for bracelet's.

These guys have a MASSIVE selection and I got my 12 compartment holder from them last year. Finish is superb and delivery and communication very quick.

    Here's the one I got

I'll see if I can find a link / post.

Hope you all remembered to get the tea box in Lidl today. Four or five left in the store in Kildare town.

It's a nice sturdy little box, and once lined with some leather/velvet will make a nice holder for ten watches.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,912 ✭✭✭sparrowcar

Picked 2 of these up today. Really good quality and spacious.
I might make one a project and see about leather lining it inside and out.

Finally somewhere safe for my watches :)

Picked mine up on Tuesday - not bad at all for a tenner! Watches are rattling around a little, so might try and line it with something too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,375 ✭✭✭Homer

Picked up a couple during the week also. Anybody seen a step by step or hints & tips on doing the conversion to a lined box?

    Internal dimensions, 341x177x68

Easily big enough for 10 watches.

Did you get that one in the end. I wanna buy my boyfriend one for his birthday and that is one of the ones I looked at. If you did get it, what did you think and if you didn't what did you go for !

Popped into Lidl yesterday, they're available on Thursday!

Going by the pic in the brochure, the box has now only 4 compartments as opposed to 5 before. So if you have more than 8 watches, this might not be for you :D

Yep. Definitely smaller. The five section one is 36 x 20 x 9.5cm

Excuse the ignorance as a newbie, but is the suggestion that the Lidl boxes aren't quite suitable for watch storage ? I have a Breitling Navitimer and a TW Steel, along with a Citizen Eco-Drive, that I had hoped to display in one of these boxes.
    Thanks in advance.

No you've read that wrong. They are great little boxes for the money. Good quality for little cash compared to purpose built watch boxes. The last lidl box I bought was slightly bigger than the one out on thurs but other than they are the same box.

Lovely boxes alright - got three of them in Swords yesterday. Out of interest, how do people store their watches ? Do you wrap them around those small cushions that originally come with the watches ? Does anyone line the interior of the boxes with felt or cloth etc ?
    Cheers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 267 ✭✭93Cab

Haven't bought one yet as I've only two watches, but loads of them in Dundalk! On a lot of the forums guys have cut down pieces of pipe insulation to size!4C6D53EA-60A7-4F9C-8FD8-610406CE3A8B-2510-000002E54F09F5C4.jpg

I bought a 2m length of 3/4" K Flex Pipe Insulation (Black) in B&Q yesterday.

I cut small lengths slightly wider than the width of each compartment and put the watches around them using it. I can just about squeeze 3 watches in each row
I was going to buy the grey pipe insulation but thought the softer black stuff would look better

I didnt need to line the interior as the watches float off the case bottom

I feel slightly guilty that, having introduced the Lidl tea box idea to this thread, I have now moved entirely to Peli cases........

I salvaged an old cutlery box one my family members was throwing out recently. I think it works well?
