    folks,

I am wondering if anyone can advise me. i am currently working in paid employment, unfortunately my work is not where my family are and i am away from home in a different part of the country during the week. also work has become very difficult. it has become unsustainable. i am working on some self employed possibilities but they are possibly further down the track. i am just wondering what my options are:
1, if i leave my employment am i entitled to any welfare?
2, if i get sacked am i entitled to anything?
3, if i leave to work on setting up a start up am i entitiled to anything?

    Many thanks in advance

In all three cases you could have a disallowance of up to 9 weeks. After that you be paid on Jobseekers assuming you satisfy the criteria. If you start your own business and qualify for Benefit you can go on Short Term Enterprise Allowance.

Is family spouse/partner & children?. If this is the case then you may not be disqualified for any period of time if you leave your employment. It would depend on the deciding officer. If you receive jobseekers benefit you can apply for short term enterprise allowance which will last for the duration of your jsb. You will have to fill out a separate form for this and provide a business plan and it will be sent on to your local jobs facilatator.

disallowance, meaning not qualifying until after this period? is there any back log?

Disallowance means your claim starts but you are not entitled to be paid until after the disallowance period. As you qualify for JB you claim processing time should be quick (about 2 weeks). So if you are entitled to 312 days on you won't be paid for the first 54 days of your claim if the full 9 weeks disallowance were to apply. You can plead your case to have the disallowance reduced or not apply at all.

If you are re-locating to be with your partner sw may reduce the disqualification period. You would have a far stronger case if there were children as well.
