Hi, I have recently startled getting disorientated doing my flip turns. I am a pretty good swimming and have no probs with flip turns, that was until last week and I now seem to really struggle with them. Really weird and just wanted to know if anyone has heard of this before? thanks

Was it only one time thing or is it consistent since then? Have you changed anything in your turns? For example direction or the stroke witch you take your last breath on before the turn? Anyway if its consistent talk to your coach and see the doctor.

thanks Kris71, haven't changed a thing and it seems pretty consistent, thats what really bugs me. didn't want to waste the cash going to see a dr, maybe it will pass, have spoke to my coach about it and she is keeping an eye on me, but it just seems a little strange to just start to happen all of a sudden.

Does it happens during high intensity training or all the time and how long do you suffer from this already? Do you feel tiered when it happens? I'm the last person to go to the doctor about anything but your case sounds weird never came across something like that, so I'm not going to start playing house and give you my guesses like low level of sugar or wrong diet, as to be honest I just don't know and I assume your coach doesn't know either, so try to write it all down, when exactly does it happens, what type of dizziness you are experiencing, etc. maybe someone educated in medicine will be able to give you some answers but I think they wont be able to do much without testing your blood either.

Hope it will pass shortly, good luck.

P.s. if you will find an answer please consider to come back and share it with us if it's nothing you want to keep for yourself, maybe someone else has similar problem as well. I for one would love to know what it is in case it happens to any of my swimmers or myself ;) Thanks

Our training is pretty intense every day, funnily enough we have been on a 2wk 'rest' where we are only swimming 1.5-2k, low intensity, and this has only started to happen during this 'rest' period. My last 2 swims now have been totally ok, no probs with the turns. in terms of diet, I do eat lots of good food not bad and drink lots of water.

If it does happen again i will need to go to dr as it wouldn't be good during a race. if and when that happens I will def post what the dr says/does.

thanks again for the help and suggestions,
