Never posted a thread on here before, so go easy on me guys! :)

Just wanted to vent really. Since moving here nearly 4 years ago, I've been unemployed with the exception of a six month contract last year.

Applied for 100's of jobs which remotely fit my skill set. Got my CV professionally written. Tailor the CV according to the role, tailor the cover letter to suit, try to do everything as professionally as I can.

I've also started to apply for Jobbridge roles. My thinking was that at least I could get some experience 'to keep my hand in' so's to speak, and would help to fill in the gap on my CV.

Got a couple of interviews with multi-national companies. Didn't get ANY of the roles. I've been told I interviewed well and feedback was very positive. I've been asked why I'm still unemployed.(No, I dunno either!) I've even been told that I made their top three shortlist (whatever that means) Great! So why didn't I get the role? I've a nasty feeling it might be age-related, but of course can never be sure! ;)

Just got another knockback tonight. My husband's been on a wild goose chase going for a role that doesn't exist. And I'm finding it very hard to retain a sense of humour about it all right now...

    And BREATHE...

It's really tough and I know it's scant consolation but it's not you - as all those in the same boat are testament and I think all you can do is take the positives about your interview skills and being short-listed and keep playing the numbers game...though I know it's soul destroying. :(

Is there any study or courses you could do in the interim? I think sometimes it helps to be doing something constructive even if it's not paid work...other than that, chin up and I really hope the next interview ends in a job offer.

    All the very best.

    Thanks for the response!

I did a couple of free courses last year. It was great as I got to meet people and get a bit of structure to my days. But, due to Govt cuts the funding for the courses have ended.

I am thinking of going back to college to finally do a degree, but am worried about the costs.

Okay so your motivation and energy source was this is okay because I will get something eventually and that only lasts so long because if we promise our emotional brain something and it didn't follow through that cycle of its okay something will come up stops working so well, if you're tired you need to make an effort to take time out for yourself as cheesey as it sounds, reassess and set goals it sounds like you have done everything you can but you're being very hard on yourself and if you don't find a way to recharge emotionally that oh I think they want someone younger or here we go another interview I wont get or being so stressed you NEED this job might come across,

it sounds like you've done really well for yourself and its not your fault the jobs market is like this, in the past not getting work meant you werent good enough as there were jobs for people who really went for it like you and now all those go getters are unemployed from the amount of places closing or cutting staff so the situation has changed but our mentalities havent this does not mean you're not good enough!

Once you know you are somewhat secure financially you can settle yourself emotionally, pat yourself on the back take a few minutes to relax before bed, wake up the next morning and just see what job ops are there is there doesnt seem to be anything that's not your fault but when there is you know youll do your best anyway.

Just mind your mental health and find other things in the present that give you joy, I think with most of us work/career wise because of the situation this is not where we planned to be our whole lives, I did not study to be unemployed and desperate, and I do have this feeling that career wise I will not end up where I wanted to be because of competition and limited opportunities but I've gotten angry, tired, then depressed and then I went into the stage of acceptance over the grief of my fleeting career. Stay strong captain :)

Just saw your other post OP I am finishing my degree and thinking or retraining in something I can work in so the 10k on fee's will be paid back easily if its something I can find work in and if you think you'll be happier doing something else wouldnt it be worth it, ah I know financing courses without a proper students loan system is a night mare.
