    Greetings all,

We are gheys (ladies) thinking of doing a travel department holiday to Bejing next year. From what I understand, I think we will get away with being gheys as long as we are low key and dont maul each other in public. Am I right here?

Also, just wondering when we check in to the hotel, will they offer us a twin room even if we book a double??? And is it frowned upon if we request a double? Just trying to get a feel for what attitudes might be like. :o

I really am dying to go there and very excited about the prospect of visiting China!!!

Eh, I wouldn't worry, people are very polite there. Usual rules apply for any couple: be culturally sensitive. Double beds? I can't field that question, but I'd just go with the flow.

No issue. Have visited here, and Hong Kong/Singapore, and there is no attitude/frowning upon etc. (nor should there be). Hotels are generally top notch, even more so since hosting The Olympics. Have a brilliant holiday! I'm a big fan of The Travel Department (and Trailfinders), so good choice. PS For The Great Wall of China there are 3 ascents to The Wall, as in easy but not that easy, harder than middle-of-the road, and hard (endurance/fit people).

Beijing is full of win, definitely the most interesting large Chinese city. Make sure to visit the 798 art district and to check out some music clubs (Beijing has a great punk and indie scene if you're into that). Renting a bike to hop between the main touristic sites around Tienanmen and the Forbidden city is also worth a thought.
