Huge Battery drain on S2

The sister got a stock S2 from O2 a few months ago.

Her battery drain is just ridiculous. I tried to optimize it by doing the usual tricks of turning off background data etc but no use.

Would it be due to not getting a software upgrade? She's hasn't done so yet since she got it.

Can I just use kies to do this upgrade for her?

go into settings\applications\battery usage and post what is listed

I would recommend flashing something like Checkrom v6 with Siyah Kernel

it really does improve battery life beyond description

Seriously? I get that easily with mine on a stock battery.

Wifi on - full day at most
Wifi off - 3-4 days (tested)

I use about 12 % battery per hour. Usually only get 7-8 hours before the beeping. Have data on during the day and wifi in the evening. Have bluetooth on alot aswel.
Should I be getting more than this?

Probably not, data + bluetooth will kill the battery.

Does an app like Juice Defender make an actual difference? I was browsing the store earlier and was looking at it.

No. It used to on older versions of Android but it's no help anymore.

Her phone isn't going into a 'Deep Sleep'
Install CPU Spy. It's a free app on the market. Leave the phone down for an hour and then check with CPU spy to see if its going into a deep sleep

If its not then install BetterBatteryStats. The free edition is here at the devs thread on XDA.
BetterBatteryStats will tell you what is draining the battery.

It's more than likely a Samsung App. Probably something checking for updates etc.
