Hi everyone. I am coming to the end of the Hibernia postgrad in primary education, and am just wondering what the situation is with subbing after all the TP blocks have been completed? I know there are loads of fully qualified teachers out there still looking for subbing, but I am just wondering if anyone has managed to get subbing before the completion of exams? Any replies would be a great help! :)

Unless you're fully qualified and registered with the Teaching Council, you should not be able to get any. DES circular 30/2011 lays this out. There is also an INTO directive about this.

Ideally, you would not, but if you have your TP done, you at least are better than someone off the street for a day's subbing.

(Q.13) Does the Directive encompass student teachers?

(A.13) The INTO position is that primary pupils should be taught by a qualified teacher. In this context, a student in the course of his/her training course is a student and not a teacher and is regarded as ‘unqualified.’ However, student teachers who have completed their course of training and who are awaiting confirmation of their examination results/Teaching Council Registration number will not be
regarded as ‘unqualified’ for the purposes of the Directive.

So the answer is yes once you have your exams completed
