The Olympics are in 3 weeks, and the deadline for achieving qualification standards has passed. You have been given the luxury of choosing 4 athletes on B-Standards to go to the Olympics under an OCI Olympic Wild Card Programme. Which current athletes not on A-Standards do you send, and for what reasons?

Jessie Barr - big breakthrough last year, has the B standard AFAIK and looks likely to cruise sub 56 in the next 2-3 years.

Jason Smyth - Has the b standard, could threaten Hession's national record this year if he pushes on from his early season form last year.

Sean Connolly - Knocking on the door of the A standard which he'll hopefully get in Rotterdam. I'm not a big marathon fan but loving the sudden deluge athletes knocking on the door of being international class and running A standards.

Ciara Mageean - Think she has the maturity and support group around her to go to London and experience the magic of the games, which will hopefully inspire her to great things going forward. She has Helsinki as a legitimate target this year, and a place in London would be a memorable experience to carry through to the next stage of her career.

I keep forgetting that she doesn't have the A-Standard yet. She'll surely nail it soon though.

Jessie Barr, Steven Colvert, Brian Gregan and Ciara Mageean. Assuming those that don't have a B, get it. All under 25, all the future. Either of the Letterkenny pair would be in the hunt too.

Wouldn't send anyone on a B if they don't have two more Games in them.

The women's 4x400m relay team are ranked 12th with the top 16 teams going to London when the qualification period is completed. Looks promising and they may well improve/consolidate their ranking in Helsinki at the European Championships.

Steven Colvert can't be sent on a B-standard for the 200m as Hession already has the A-standard.

This is a pretendy wildcard system in which he can.
