Camera Insurance

Hey, so I am moving countries but was thinking of buying a camera at the airport worth about 800euros...I assumed buying insurance at the shop would cover it but after reading stuff online...I am a little worried. Will the shop insurance which will be 100-200 euros not cover this camera if I am living in another country and then travelling to different countries?

Would really appreciate the help, I was super excited to buy a camera but now not so excited! I don't want to buy a camera I will constantly be concerned about!

Most shop's insurance are nonsense and you're paying for nothing the law doesn't already cover (for the most part anyway).

Most shops will cover you (with or without insurance) for faulty goods, but if your camera is stolen or damaged though not using it properly (including dropping it) then the camera shop won't stand over it, as it's your fault, not theirs.

Separate insurance companies (camerainsurance.ie, for example) will charge you more than the shop you're buying it from would, but they'd cover stolen equipment or things that you accidentally damage yourself.

But, most insurance will only cover the item out of the country for a specified time (30 days, 60 days, etc), and wouldn't generally cover travelling for a year or such.

In that case, you may need local cover, where ever you are.

Can you get the Insurance before you buy the camera. All risk and travel? If you know the model camera you want and the value put your insurance in place but you may need to phone with serial numbers of camera before you travel

Tra a pm to Balfey1972 who is a regular on here. He is an expert in this field

Hi, I'm wondering where and how to insure my gear while someone else will be using it?
In other words my workmate would like to borrow some lenses and I will sleep much better if they'll be covered by all risk insurance. Any recommendations?

Give camerainsurance.ie a call and ask them. They will be able to give you good advice, since they are an insurance broker.
