Have you any info or paperwork for the car at all?
Any idea of the age of the car or when it was built?
    Was it ever registered?

Because its a kit car makes things more difficult as its not really a car built by a manufacturer as such, I think duttons were all home built based on Escort bits?
I'm not sure if they carried the original donor cars registration or got a new one.
I wonder is there an owners club that could help with dating the car?

There HAS to be some record or 'chassis / build' no. on it somewhere. Check out http://www.duttonownersclub.co.uk/ for help.
I once bought a US Kwacker, wrote to Kawasaki US and they sent me back owners papers in my name for it that Revenue accepted.
You could always tell revenue that you built it yourself from 'an old Escort' lying in a field :D

Before you do a thing , or spend a penny on that car, get the paperwork sorted. Its almost impossible to get a Kit Car registered in this country even WITH all the right Docs. Lads in IKCC are a sound bunch and they will advise you if you contact them.

Actually now you say it there was one of the lads down here had what i think was a Mini Pimlico, a kit built from a 70s mini but registered on a 1989 Q plate and he had issues with registering it here.
