    Hi all,
Just about to start a new build and am considering hiring a QS. I've no experience with construction and am looking for advice as to the value a QS adds. From what I've read on boards and from asking people, many consider engaging a QS but a small minority actually engage a QS, citing cost of a QS as the main reason they don't go with one.
I'd be interested in others opinions on this. If anyone can recommend a QS and give an approx cost I'd appreciate this please (PM obviously).

    Thanks
    NBO

You should always employ the best suited professionals for the different requirements you have on a project.

As a QS, in my opinion a QS should be employed on any job where you wish to have price certainty.

Most people dont employ a QS because of the cost despite the fact that if things go wrong financially it will cost multipals of the cost of the QS. Those who appreciate a QS the most are those who come to them after they are in trouble and then generally it can be too late.

If you end up at the end of the job wondering why you paid a QS as everything went fine onsite then the QS has done an excellent job for you.

Depending on what you want a QS to do the cost will generally be around €1200 - €1500 for pre contract including a bill of quantities and tender analysis and post contract will generally cost per valuation and will depend on size of project, number of visits etc

    Couldn't agree more.
A good QS is your insurance that the "money" end of your project is properly controlled. Their work is often not seen or properly appreciated.
