Very interesting Prime Time is having an investigation in to Prime Time (Investigates)... I think Microsoft Excel would bring up a circular reference error.. :pac:

    Interesting stuff though..

It's absolutely nauseating. Obviously the guests were banned from using the name "Aoife Kavanagh" before the programme aired. Miriam O'Callaghan was clearly towing the management line. It was like watching the church's word play before Diarmuid Martin took over. RTE would do well to ask him for lessons in humility.

who was the apologist for the church there? is he a senator? i believe i've heard him spout on before.

also can't see why mo'c felt she had to apologise to him either.

You thinking of David Quinn from the Iona Institute? He wasn't on the panel, but there was a clip of him. He was quite correct though - if the priest was accused of rape without the child being mentioned, he'd have had no comeback. Are you saying it was OK to do what they did to him?

Interesting to see Ger Colleran from The Star playing the "terrible business" card.....When was the Star the bastion of the "righteous " card?

And Patsy McGarry AGREEING with David Quinn. The show was full of contradiction... And Colleran's reference to those RTE staff that should have been let go.. I think he was talking about Tubs...

Ger has obviously decided that RTE needs him more than Vincent me thinks.....

Miriam isn't exactly underpaid herself - I'd love to have seen her face when he made that comment!

It was a bit of a bizarre programme all round.

Yeah, I felt it would have been better if they'd just named her.. I mean EVERYBODY knows who they are talking about. I also didnt understand the assertion that it was "this journalists first Prime Time Investigates" show... Was that Aoife Kavanagh's FIRST Prime Time Investigates. I'm sure I've seen her on it before. (or were they talking about somebody else?)

His response was a bit "uncomfortable" for Miriam alright, but I wouldnt think he was talking about her when he made the "should have been let go" remark.. I think Tubridy (for his exceptionally poor performances both on radio and TV) and Finucane (for her exceptionally short hours) would be the top of any cull list, if the national broadcaster was taking their debts seriously.

McGarry's no apologist for the church, and rightly not.

I think we're both right, bluefinger... The debate was between McGarry and David Quinn, on the Pat Kenny Show.. it's still up on podcast... Well worth a download, even just to hear the snide remarks they make about each other :D

Was that not PMcG (who is brilliant!) and Sen. Ronán Mullen? Or was there another ding-dong that I need to listen to

Sorry, that's right. It was another podcast he was on with David Quinn, but the most recent was with Rónán Mullen, who used to work in some sort of PR role for the church... He always reminds me of Scooter from the Muppets..

Ah right. Might watch this on the interweb tomorrow.

There was a guy from RTE on Newstalk this morning saying they couldn't comment on the investigation, did they then go ahead with a whole programme about it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,802 ✭✭✭bluefinger

senator ronan mullen. that's it. was a great debate/cat fight.

you're right red alert. he is not an apologist for the church. just caught the end of what he was saying and he seemed to be more pro church than when i'd previously heard him speak.

Yeah..kinda strange program...the Mt Onville girl looked and sounded very uncomfortable.

Great to see Colleran wade in with the size nines when he commented that RTE management had only met on Tuesday as this was "The first working day" since they had got the report.

Typical public service was his message.......both pannellists got it right when they blamed RTE Middle Management for the cock up.

Poor Mt Onville had no answer to the charge that this same management were responsible for the ludicrous contracts awarded to RTE "Stars" ..on the grounds that they might be poached by rival stations.

That canard has been well and truly debunked by the emergemce of excellent broadcasters on other stations..the likes of Scott Williams / Damien Kiberd and the Off the Ball guys from Noostalk
