Uk JAA Medical and EASA

I currently hold a UK issued Class 1 medical and am looking to obtain a PPL here in Ireland. However under current rules this is not possible because you must do your initial training in the country where your medical was issued.
My question is will this change under the new EASA rules that are meant to be in place by now. I have read through pages of documents recently released by the IAA but am still very confused on the issue. Any help would be really appreciated.

    Anybody in a similar situation?

This question comes up quite often and no solid answer has been given. ( unless you were told so by IAA)

I think from this april, there are going to be some changes with medical licencing, but i havent heard anything about it yet.
Have you rang IAA and confirmed this?

    cheers

Under EASA the country which conducted your initial medical and thus holds your aviation medical records must be the state of licence issue.

It's up to the IAA as to whether they will accept the records from the UK CAA as being to their standards to issue you with a medical. I personally doubt they will. You'll need to talk to Dr Roodenberg I imagine at the IAA. :pac:

Really? Is this recent because I had e-mailed her last year under the old rules and she said no. Would it be worth a try with this guy?

Ya just about 3-4 weeks ago. He seems like a nice chap, much easier to deal with and much more efficient!! No idea how he would deal with that particular issue however but I get the impression he is certainly a lot more open minded, so I would say email him and ask!!
