@FlyingIrishMan: Any point in OP getting one of the new Z77 mobos instead? Or is there not enough of a difference for the extra tenner?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

For a tenner, he might as well.

Also, somehow I think you'll cope without the Sound Blaster :D

    Why do you say that?

Is it not better to have a sound card for a 5.1 system?

Also notice there is no after-market heatsink.

Would it be worth getting one?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

It would, yeah. What card is it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,994 ✭✭✭Taylor365

    Sound Blaster® X-FiTM XtremeMusic (D) w/Dolby® Digital 5.1 sound card

    Thats the one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

Stick with the Sound Blaster so. :)

    What heatsink should i get?

What sort of overclocks / noise levels do you want?

Edit: and how much are you willing to spend? (min. €20 up to about €80)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,994 ✭✭✭Taylor365

Not too noisey and budget around €30

    Order came to €1205 altogether.

I expect to see it in 2-3 weeks time as some of the parts aren't in stock.

I'll let you know how i go :)

Received the order on the 17th. Pretty fast delivery!

Everything seems to be in fine order. Monitor is spotless, all pixels showing.

I'm currently building the machine but have one problem.

The 8-pin connector that has to reach across to the top of the motherboard isn't long enough to do just that. Every which way it isn't long enough to reach the connection. Either the heatsink is in the way or it wont reach around the back.

Any ideas? Do i have to buy an extension now aswell?

Also i seem to be a sata data cable short too. :/

Download the ISO off their website and you can still use the code you got from the german copy.

    English isn't a downloadable language :/

I tried using windows updater (painfully through german) but in Home Premium LPs aren't supported.

Am i basically stuck with a german copy of windows 7???

I don't think I'm allowed to link it, but if you just google "Windows 7 ISO enlgish" you'll find a downloadable link.

Thanks for your replies btw. Much appreciated.

3GB is the download. Will my windows 7 still be geniune after install?

Also i'm having problems with windows picking up my HDD. When installing my OS i ahd the options of the HDD and SSD. I chose SSD and now thats all that is displayed in 'My Computer' and when i want to install things. Any reason this is happening?

    Thanks again.

Yeah, it'll be legit. It's licensed by Microsoft, etc.

You need to create a partition in your other drive first.

    Right-click Computer -> Manage -> Disk Management -> Right-click drive -> Create new volume.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,994 ✭✭✭Taylor365

    I see. Easily done...in English windows 7 :P

Downloaded the english version. When i go to install it turns the screen to 800x600 and disconnects the mouse and keyboard (which makes it impossible to install).

I'm starting to regret ordering my windows from that site :/

There is one on their site in English. It's slightly more expensive than the one linked in the original spec. Is this newly added maybe??

MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit SB-Version Englisch

Finally got it working. Mouse and keyboard decided to magically work after a few reboots.

    Hey guys,

PC has been running smoothly since i built it. Runs BF3 and Skyrim on all ULTRA, Scans 76000 files in less than a minute and looks pretty bad ass and tidy but.....

..recently I've had 2 occasions were it's crashed. The monitor shuts off (Sleep Mode) and the fans speed up to max rev (you can hear from the noise).

    Any ideas what's causing this?

Were you gaming when this happened?

Once while playing Diablo III and another time playing league of legends.

Not overly demanding games i would presume.

6 years later and the CPU, Mobo, HDD and SSD are still going great. :pac:
GPU has been upgraded twice, CPU OCed to its max.

Still hitting high frames in games. Have been looking out for a 3770k as a little side-grade, but can't seem to grab one for under €100.

Let this be a lesson, listen to the boardies! :D:D:D:D
