Dental Hospital...

    Hi folks.

I'm not going to beat around the bush here. I have serious dental issues such as gaps where teeth have fallen out and gum disease I'd say.

Due to fear and neglect I've not gone to a dentist in nearly two decades. I'm 40 now.

Thing is I realise I need to see someone but haven't the funds to pay forthe required treatment. I'm not entitled to a Medical Card.

My question is will the Dental Hospital see me? Possibly use me for training of students?

Ring them. Cork & Dublin both have dental hospitals; find out if there's a waiting list, if/how you can be placed on it, & what sort of timeframe you can expect to be seen in (1: for assessment , 2: to start treatment).
You'd probably make a good case study, with a dramatic "before and after".
Good luck, the thought of it is often worse than the reality.

    Thank you.

The case study angle was what I was thinking about myself. But then again there may be others with more compelling issues.

As you say I have nothing to lose in getting in contact. Being on a waiting list wouldn't bother me to much if I thought there was a hope of being chosen.

I'm not in pain but am very conscious of how I look...:(

Failing/notwithstanding the dental hospital, you could always book a checkup with a general dentist, if only to get an idea of what sort of treatment you require, what would be involved timewise& costwise.
Because even if you can't go going ahead with any treatment in the short-term, it's good to have an idea of what lies ahead, and more importantly what you can do to safeguard the remainder of your teeth in the meantime.

Usually a dentist refers you to the hospital, or you can ring and ask to be put on the screening clinic waiting list.
