I need help to exactly identify a Sony Vaio so I can get a service manual for it , the only model number written on it is PCG-8113M , but this would appear to be just a generic chassis used in several models.

I've tried Sonys site but to no avail. The is a number on a sticker which I believe will decipher the model its: 28278853 5000074.

    Thanks

Indeed, you're looking for a model number starting with VGN (e.g. VGN-AR61E)

For laptops released between Fall 2000 and Spring 2009:

The model number is located on a small label located on the frame around the computer screen. (e.g., VGN-FW550F)
If that label isn't there anymore, you should get in contact with SONY Support, they should be able to identify the mofel from the serial number.

Thanks , should have mentioned that the model is not on the screen bezel (looks like it was never there ??)

I've sent a mail to Sony ... I'll see if that brings back anything ... I have a service tag as well , but their site has no place for me to input this ...so I'll wait for their response I suppose.

When you google the chassis number and VGN, there aren't that many models, just get the manuals for all of them. ;)

May I ask what you need the service manual for?

The screen is giving trouble , and after replacing the inverter and the screen, I'm still in the same boat. The only option left is the video cable (working perfectly on external monitor), so need a manual to dis-assemble it. Have it partially apart but need a bit more guidance.

Auto-detect didn't work , but found it in the Vaio Control center which is installed on the laptop. Thanks for the help folks,
