OMG how could you! I'm still knackered and achey after the Easter Fleche.

Mind you I'm working through a cold at the mo which might have some bearing...

Looks like a great route so I will have to put my name in the hat.

Shame the An post tour of Sligo is on the next day and I have signed up for it.

Guess now I will have to do the both of them. Anyone else thinking of doing both?

CI/IVCA license required. A one-day CI license available at start.

Must get into audax soon, but for my present cycling ability I'd need a two day license for 300k ;)

Just paid my entry fee (online with paypal, hasn't Audax come so far so quickly).

Anyone have any idea on numbers so far? really looking forward to getting out to the first Connacht Audax.

fair deuce to you if you manage that! i have contemplated it...but a late finish in westport, then you'd have to be up at about 6 the next day to drive to Sligo...i could see myself sleeping through that particular alarm!!

That's not too shabby for a 300 - looking forward to it, the route looks superb. Staying in a Hostel in Westport for Saturday night too, so looking forward to a pint or two afterwards.

Thanks to Pat for organising a nice route with plenty to see including a couple of Dolphins in Killary harbour.

Traffic was very light barring the road from Bangor back to Westport which was still very light in comparison to dublin roads. Some really nice sights like the ceide fields too and Cong but to mention two.

Will be back next year no doubt.

Nice early start to the day at 6 bells. 20 lunatics then left Westport heading towards Craogh Patrick and shortly split into two groups. Weather was dry and fresh. Wind died down half way through the day but we still had a nice headwind for about 100k from Cong to Ballycastle. Group stayed together pretty much for the whole way to Cong where we had our first stop. Left shortly after with Kurt and Kevin leading the way up the road on their own. We stopped to water the flowers afterwards and then went off up the road after them. The biggest mistake of the day was i went up the road after them hoping to catch them. Little did i know they stopped in Ballinrobe for food so i chased an imaginary group till the 190k mark of Ballycastle. I was in a cafe trying to figure out where they were getting their speed after finishing a sambo and some apple pie when the two lads walked in. Mystery was solved.
I was starting to sieze up so i told the lads i would take it easy and let them catch me. I tried to for 20k or so but was freezing so i Just lashed into it and rode the rest on my tod.Thought they may have caught me after i punctured and my pump wouldnt work in Mallraney and i wasted 30 mins fixing it,but to no avail.

Got back into westport at 7:01. Pretty much rode from Cong to Westport solo so a long day at over 220k with just the ipod for company. Wont be making that mistake again.

Good to see the usual lads there Niall,Eoghan,Paul,Kevin,Pat,Andreas,Kurt and then some new guys like Gordon and his two brothers.

See you all at Mick Byrne.

+ 1 on the route, spectacular coastal scenery of Clew Bay, Clare Island, Killary Harbour and Achill Island helped to take the mind off the cycling. Weather was good, but fairly chilly all day, I was glad of the heavy overshoes. Got a bit waylaid in Ballycastle in a nice Cafe-they had a big group in for some function, and our soup and toasties took ages to arrive so that killed an hour. Wind direction was better after that, and we had a nice ride West and South back towards the finish. It's a pity you didn't meet up with the other two, they must have been just behind you as they also finished at 7 as far as I know. The bunch had leapfrogged us at the slow cafe stop, we passed them while they were stopped in a Garage at 240kms, and then they came past again as we were finishing off our last stop at Bangor. We headed off a few minutes later, and eventually caught up with them around 280kms, and had a nice fast run in along the North side of Clew Bay, and back down to Westport, arriving at 9pm. Thanks to all for the company, and well done to all those who were taking part in their first 300. Route here if anyone's interested. http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=291087 Cheers, LG
