DIT Computer Science: Leaving Cert predictions!

    Hi!

Last year the CAO points for computer science in DIT were 350 and 335 and 285 in 2010 and 2009 respectively.

What I was wondering was with the expected influx of people from other countries coming to work in Ireland's booming IT sector and the high demand for Irish people doing the same, what do people expect the course points to go up by? Would it be outrageous to think that they'd go up to around 400?

    Any replies appreciated!

I'm aiming for around 400 so hopefully they don't take too big of a jump

Also wondering, is an E in HL Maths accepted in this course

    I sincerely doubt it.

It says minimum grade OC3 on the website (here). I would say for higher a D3 would be necessary. I mean, an E is a fail afterall.

That said, I don't know. Would be no harm to email the course co ordinator for clarification. His address is in that link above

I think the idea that it could go up to 400 is a bit outrageous 65 points in 3 years is an incredible rise and high demand for IT is already 'priced in'.

Bonus points for higher maths is unlikely to cause a huge bump in the points level for this course.

It depends entirely on the people applying for the course. If the course has 80 places, and 81 applicants 79 of which get 450 pts. And the other 2 get 300 & 200. The person who got 200 pts will not get the place, the 300pts person will, and the entry requirements for the course will be seen as 300 pts. It's not like someone's sitting in a room somewhere dictating the points, it's the applicants.

If people follow the advice given in media, i.e. do an IT related course you could find a big jump in the points. But you just don't know!

Just aim to get every point you can in the leaving, and hopefully you get the place you want.

Seems like that was an excellent prediction from BrianB4!

Well done. That's a huge jump from an E to a B3. Congratulations!

That's mad, it was 230 when I started in 2006, 210 the following year!
