The only way is up as they've released some awful crud over the past 10 years. Truly wish that J Spacemen would widen his lyrical approach too.

Whats the standout track? They where definitely one of the best bands around during the 90's.,,seen them twice and J is one mean guitatist but I guess I just lost interest ..soul on fire was pretty dire.LGM and ladies gentlemen are classics.Good reviews from the latest gig in vicar street few weeks ago.

    ^I have to agree with Jim_Kiy ^.
Set out to give this a listen last night and after the first 2 tracks, I hate to say, I got bored and ended up dipping in and out of subsequent tracks. While I admit this is probably not the best strategy, I'm not inclined to give the full thing a listen based on what I got form my dipping.

IMO 'Spiritualized' never quite delivered on the promise that Spacemen 3 tantalised us with but I have to agree that LGM and L&GWAFTS were pretty good (maybe that's a little understated).

Recommendations that I should make the effort to properly listen to this latest offering at least once will be gratefully received.

Watched the video for 'Hey Jane' and have to agree with some of the earlier sentiments that it sounds better than anything they've done in the last decade. However, it was still pretty much a retread on old ground. I always thought they were better at the more atmospheric/pyschadelic stuff than the more straight edged garage rock and roll thing. In retrospect, it's quite surprising that they went more in that direction.

I love everything they have ever done! Saw them play live on a few occasions and I was blown away.

Will give this a listen tonight. Always had a soft spot for Spiritualized. 'ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space' is a stone cold classic. Probably in my top five favourite albums EVER!

Seen them live a few times but best gig was probably when they played Witnness about ten years ago. Think Mercury Rev came on straight after them. That was a magical couple of hours.

Let It Come Down, Amazing Grace and over half of Songs in A & E. I've seen them live twice - one incredible gig, the other shockingly bad. But what's that got to do with the fact that I think some of their records have been ****?

I was at the gig in Vicar St a few weeks ago and it was amazing, I left with great expectations for the release of the album... that day has come and I picked up on CD and vinyl today. On first listen to the vinyl and I'm struggling - not with the music but the production or mastering, it sounds awful so far!!! It's limited edition white vinyl so that may have something to do with it, will have a listen on CD later and see if much different but so far I'm very disappointed with my desire to own it on vinyl :(

On the 2nd disc of the LP and massive difference, hopefully I just got a dodgy copy!

Which begs the question - how will he top that for the next album? Songs From Beyond The Grave perhaps?

Why on earth would he want to top it ? "Songs From Beyond The Grave" has been done already aswell. :)

Cheers, looked on the forum and see there are lots with the same issue... brought mine back today and picked up something else instead... Low - 'I Could Live in Hope' vinyl reissue, pleased with how that worked out in the end! Pity though on the vinyl problem for Spiritualized, hopefully they correct it and I'll most likely pick it up again.
