Lucan Harriers Tom Byrne Memorial 5km Race is on the 20th May 2012.

The race held in honour of one of the founding members of Lucan Harriers, Tom Byrne, starts and finishes on Esker track in Lucan and is one of the few, if not the only, road race(s) in the country which finishes on a track. This really adds to the atmosphere at the finish since the race is often still undecided as the leaders come onto the track for the final sprint in front of a big crowd.

Tea, Cake and biscuits available afterwards in the school.

Where is the Esker track? Know Lucan well enough but no idea where your clubhouse is.

Its across from Superquinn, beside the Hockey pitch.

Coming from Lucan, on Newcastle Road, straight through roundabout at Superquinn, 100m further on left.

Hmm.. I'm interested. This would be a handier alternative for me to the BHAA 5k beach race on the Tuesday. I run through that park a lot.

What sort of folks run this? I'm looking for a 5k around that date and the location is perfect but myself and the girl I'd be running it with would be very lucky to finish 5k in 30 mins. Are we gonna be the last stragglers? :pac:

You're well capable of it. Don't hold back too much at the start, don't give yourself permission to slow down in the middle, and you should take a chunk out of 20.

I agree, now if I could just find the 'off' switch for my chronic fatigue.....;)

Word on the street is there's two tickets to the olympics athletics final in one of the goodie bags?!

Just had a look at the course, is it all on road/path or is there a section on the grass?
    Thanks

It's all road and tarmac path, no grass unless you are cutting corners :)

Think I'll give this a bash. I'm in the middle of exams and my chocolate to non chocolate food intake ratio is a little higher than I'd like but really need to get out of the house for something other than work!!
Bit of 'speedwork' for Dunshaughlin next month.

Great race. Perfect morning for it. Nice course too. Definitely one for the calendar again next year. :)

Agreed, great race and a nice morning for it too.

Shaved a wee bit off for a PB of 19.33 so happy with that. Didn't really leave anything out there at all. Progress at least.

great race & great weather too - nice goody bag too - drawstring bag.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 755 ✭✭✭Sandwell

Great race on a really fast course which combined with the weather made for a lot of good times. I'm just back running a couple of weeks after three months out with injury but surprised myself by equalling my PB of 17:24. Delighted with that.

Great race again this year, well organised and nice goody bag.

Wouldn't mind a look at the results of anyone has a link? Probably not out until tomorrow.
Sandwell: you know what to do now - train less! Great time btw.

Just wondering did I get somebody elses time, I clocked 21:49 on my garmin, the results have me down for 21:29 ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,304 ✭✭✭Chartsengrafs

I timed myself via my trusty Casio watch and had the same time as the official one (to the second). I usually go by my own time in the absence of chip timing.

I enjoyed this overall. Course was a bit twisty turny for my liking but thats my own particular gripe. Weather was perfect, nice spread afterwards aswell. Really good stuff for 12 quid.
