Turbo Traniners - Advice

    Good morning lads and ladies,

I need some advice on purchsing a turbo trainer. It is going to get seriously hot where I live in the next month or two so I need a little air con'd exercise.

I am clueless as to the brand extra, I want something that I will be able to use, not too complicated and that will feel sturdy as I it will have my 'trim' 103kg frame on it.

Does the type of bike I have matter? I have a Scott road bike with carbon forks.

    Budget: Euro 500

So Tacx is the way to go. Do they adjust for incline etc automatically or do you have to get off and change it manually?

The Tacx Bushido has its own screen with all the various controls at your fingertips, including resistance, as well various training programs. The beauty of the Bushido is that it doesn't need to be plugged in, you power the display and electronics yourself.

You can add a PC interface later and have the full Tacx Training Software running, which is ( finally ) a very slick program.

The price on bike24 is VERY good !

There is a "remote" adjustment of resistance, in the case of the Satori it's a handlebar mounted lever. You don't adjust incline on a turbo, there's no point.

I don't understand what the extra €300 gives you over the Satori. Power measurement is known to be inaccurate on turbo trainers, and inaccurate power measurement is pointless, may as well use HR and put that €300 towards a proper power meter.

If you have a laptop or PC available, the Tacx flow multi-player is worth looking at for €370. More discussion in this thread. Not as good as the real thing, but a good alternative when getting outside isn't an option. Was using this about 5 days a week since Christmas until the weather improved, still use it once or twice a week in the evenings.

Well on a more serious note, a mate of mine just got one, and he also has a Powertap, and he's very impressed with the consistency of the Bushido against the Powertap. So its well worth the €300 extra IMO if you don't already have a power meter IMO, plus the Bushido will also read any Ant+ power meter if you do have one.
