Ireland is a first world country, food is abundant enough and hardly any of us wear rags.

Do you think our country is rich enough (by rich I mean by world standards, we are very high up on the global list) that everyone should be entitled for their social to pay for surplus expenses, like holidays, jewellery, cars? (when I say car I don't mean a beemer, but a 2nd hand car 4-5 years old for around 2.5k-3.5k)

No I don't think it should pay for unnecessary extravagances but if a person uses their benefits for these (unlikely as that is, granted) I can't stop them.

Sweet Christ on a stick. How many more dole-bashing threads can AH sustain before it implodes in a sticky mess of one-eyed self-righteous idiocy?

dole should pay for coke and hookers, decking, jet ski's and a general celtic tiger lifestyle while everyone else pays 90% income tax and 10,000 a year in property tax

No. They should be given only the basics: food, shelter, clothes and education. Everything thing else is a luxury.

The Federal Government of Cloud-cuckoo Land is probably the only one.

I have no problem with this but I would expect people who are working will get the same benefits from their employers.
