I'm looking at getting a tablet, but it must have the ability to connect to the internet when there is no wireless available.

I looked at a few models today and none of them had a usb connection that would fit a mobile broadband dongle, is there a solution I'm not aware of in relation to this?

It would be needed about four - ten times a year for 2-3 days at a time

Thanks in advance for any help :)

Nope to do this you need either a 3G tablet, a 3G modem, or to tether your tablet to your phone.

    Thank you.

Next question, (apologies I'm completely new to tablets), I've got a mobile broadband usb dongle as part of my mobile package, could I potentially change that package to either get a sim for a 3g tablet or to transfer the data from the mobile broadband to my phone to use for tethering?

Ask your mobile provider, there's all sorts of stupid shíte goes on with data packages, common sense answer would be yes, likely answer is probably not...

Or a mifi device... Acts as a personal wifi hotspot and connects up to 5 wireless devices.

Got one a couple of weeks ago. Laptop, phone and pmp all connected. Very happy with it.

Or a tablet that supports USB OTG......

    Wouldn't be cleanest though:

That might not work if the tablet doesn't support the dongle. Best bet is one with 3G built in or a mifi device like mikedragon suggests.

Agree Mifi 3G modem device is defo the most versatile solution as you can use it with any wifi enabled device, laptop, tablet etc. and connect multiple devices at once.

Get a Mifi modem for portability.

If it's a permanent install you can also get a 3G wifi router that has usb ports for mobile broadband modems.

I've no idea what settings you need to put in to get it working with Irish sims but it's probably worth looking into.
