Career Break Advice

    Hello Everyone,

I am a 26 year old, marketing exec. I am extremly lucky to have a great secure job with good bens and a good salary. However after 3 years in my job and with little or no movement I have become very demotivated and bored. My boss is based in the UK and her involvement in my day to day work is extremly limited. At my review in Novemeber she explained that due to restructuring etc there would be limited movement in the company for the next 2-3 years. Bearing this in mind and having recently become single I am thinking i should ask for a career break. Their is no company policy on this and nobody in the Irish office has ever applied for one so I would be the first.

I would be asking for a 6 month leave, has anybody taken a career break, if so can you advise what i should put in my request letter? I was also thinking of asking senior members of my team, whom are at a high level to write a joint letter on my behalf saying that they would be happy to let me take the break??

What if i don't get the career break? is it worth leaving a good job to go to Oz for the craic and banter? a group of friends are going in October ideally i would like to go with them. Any advise welcome.

Well, it's probably down to what you want to do with your life?

Do you just wanna go abroad and have a bit of craic or maybe work?
Do you wanna try and get another job?
Do you wanna go back to education?
