Must be a slow news day at the Daily Fail. There's been thousands of videos posted from there over the years. Most who stand in that position know exactly what will happen(often the main reason for standing there) and are not 'plane spotters'.

I've still yet to convince Mrs. Lucan that it's the perfect place for a holiday though.

I'm surprised the area is not cordoned off by health & Safety departments, anywhere in Europe or the western world it would be.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2127152/Astonishing-video-shows-moment-airplane-jet-wash-blows-woman-head-wall.html

I've always wanted to go there and have decided as of now that some day I will!

Jeez and I thought 16 days were a "rush"!.....I need to get out more!

Perhaps I can trick the girl into a trip....anybody know of a tourist brochure that doesnt show the aircraft?...I'll be rumbled otherwise!:(

The photos are often considered Photoshop fakes because the planes are so low coming in over the beach but they're genuine ok. The bar at one end of the road which runs between the beach and the airport fence reputedly has a link to the airport arrivals screen so that the customers can plan to be out waiting for the next low flying arrival.

Slow news day indeed. Leave it to the Daily Mail to sensationalise this crap. As for the girl, she should know what she's getting herself in for when she stands around there. There's very blatent signage that tells you...

I've often wondered which is more dangerous.

The risk of been blown onto the road or inhaling the fumes emitted by the engines at such close range. It must be fairly strong.

The bar is the Sunset Bar and Grill, most of the online photos are taken from it. (planes travelling left to right in shot) and actually they use a surfboard with big jet arrivals chalked up each morning.

Airliners World had a review of SXM about 4 months ago (with a pic of the surfboard!)

EDIT: scroll down for the surfboard:

Mrs Tenger has tentatively given her OK, but with kids I have no idea when I (we?) will make it there......

Her OK is probably along the same lines as the question the other day about whether I can make it to IAD to see Discovery arrival on the 27th.......giving me permission while knowing it will never happen..........

There is a signpost at the fence that says reminds tourists of Jet blast! I'd love to go there, but it still doesn't beat looking at the 747s and 777s land on RXY 25R at LAX, and also enjoy eating burgers at In n' Out! My fave place in the world to planespot! And of course, the Sunshine!

I think there are traffic lights or barriers to stop the road traffic when there's an approach or take-off. Agree that the fumes must be a major health hazard, don't know how anyone can stand at the fence and inhale those fumes, especially when the planes are beginning their take-off from just inside the fence.
