This is on next Sunday 15th April per CI calendar, but I cannot find any more info on Carrick Wheelers website or elsewhere.

Anyone got more info e.g. seperate race for A4, circuit, distance, climbs, HQ, sign on etc?

    Details now on carrickwheelers.com.

How tough is the hill on the Kearney's Road circuit, how far after the start of the lap is it?

You forgot the obvious Q, how far are you going to win by ? :pac:

If the circuit is the same as last year, then the climb comes roughly 10km after the start, the climb is then 5.6km @ 3% (168m elevation) but there's a dip in the middle of it. The descent is lumpy aswell.

TBF there is a contact phone number and email address on the CI calender!

I love the attitude these days that everyting must be displayed on the web, and at all costs we must avoid any person to person contact. Suppose phoning and asking the organiser would be too traumatic an experience

If the details are put on the web, then everyone finds out the pertinent information. If one person rings the organiser, only one person gets the info.

My point was all the information about the race or details on how to access it was available. The OP chose to bypass it and ask randomers on the web instead......

The internet doesn't suit everybody/organiser or club and there are often valid reasons not to publicise events too much (eg if it is a popular event with high demand already the last thing an organiser needs is more publicity).

Even with no web access you can post stuff to Twitter by SMS.

If numbers need to be limited for safety reasons, do advance registration. If the problem is lack of technology to handle that, then C.I. should step in and provide a registration system for all clubs to use.

But then the organiser gets bombarded with a hundred calls looking for routine information. There's an excluding nature to that attitude - a lot of people (myself included) wouldn't feel comfortable bothering the organiser with such a small inquiry. And I remember emailing Carlow CC about the Des Hanlon last year, and never got a response.

Slightly OT, but I noticed this weekend's Brendan Carroll Memorial takes place at "at same new venue as 2010/11". :D

It's really up to the organiser how much information they put up, in this case they preferred to put their contact details rather than a full description of the races/course/format etc...

I'm just saying we can't expect everyone else to use the internet all the time simply because we want them too!

We don't need everyone to use the internet all the time. It just makes sense when you're running an open race. How many times a year is that for a club?

"The internet" isn't some new fangled invention, it's been around since the 1970s.

None of which detracts from the enormous and much appreciated efforts by the unpaid organisers of bicycle racing in this country. But this is 2012, FFS.

Thanks for the reply RobFowl. I thought that was what you Boardsies did, shared info.

A well known former intercounty hurler I know, who is now involved in coaching kids, detests texting, emails etc. He often asks 'Why don't people ring me as it's nice to talk?'

I accept your point, but the point was also made that the organiser would be inundated with calls, all looking for the same info.

Thanks Morrisseeee, just the info I wanted.

Haven't decided how far I'll win by yet!

Website doesn't seem to give actual route, where exactly is Kearney's Hill, I'm familiar with Mountain Road in Clonmel & Tickincor.

I would like to know what the extra mystery 5km on the 3 lap race are about :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 118 ✭✭no1murray

cheers stokolan. that looks like the one alright.
every event should have all the details on the internet (course profile, route). surly there is someone in every club with a computer with internet connection and a printer. best of luck to everyone tomorrow. shall see ye all at the start line.

Right, that was 'fun'. Kearney's Road was ok as I was told what to expect. It was the up and down bits on the rest of the circuit that wrecked me. It really seemed like there was a lot more uphill than down. And heavy road surfaces. Anyway, I finished it and am still happily tired a day later.

    Great race, organisation, marshalling.

Where next? Frank O'Rourke Memorial, Wexford, 6th May.;) I'm not allowed out to play next weekend. :(

Yep, a great but very tough circuit, and made even more tougher with the road surface !! If it had a nice smooth surface it would make the suffering all the more............ahem..........enjoyable :pac:

The climb was as expected, but I'll agree that there were a few 'drags' that really hurt, especially that one on the main road (before Rathgormack), cyclists will know this one from the SeanKellyTour 160km. I created a segment on Strava for it (out of divilment!) mainly because when I looked at it first I thought that you would have enough speed from the descent to fly up it, but that's not the case, it's a real 'killer ramp'.

The story of my race went as follows: started about 3/4 way back on inside, then on the first drag, a guy stops in front (does an A Schleck) and I loose all momentum and now I'm paddy-last. I hit the climb & knuckle down, I pass a few guys and by the top there's a group of us that knuckle-down to do the chasing, as the front group are just ahead in the distance. We race hard but never make it (I think maybe 3mins behind winners in the end), and we end up having our own little sprint to sort out the 'minor' placings, it was my first sprint !! so I'm gaining experience with every race I do :)

Personally I really happy with my first 5 races this year, as this time last year I was being spat out the back early-doors and nearly had given up on the (outlandish) idea of racing.
