USB drive corrupted?

    Hey,

I believe that a USB drive belonging to me has recently become corrupted. It is filled with very important data and I really want to recover it.

I attempted to use GetDataBack for FAT but the trial won't allow you to recover the files, only view them. I also checked the file system for errors and now the USB shows nothing, but still says (in properties) that it is near-full.

Beforehand it was filled with files with garbage names filled with symbols and the contents were ~6 times larger than they actually were.

I attempted to use chkdsk /f to fix it but it says there are no problems with it.

Is it possible to use system restore to rollback to a checkpoint and recover the files on it? Or is there any way to recover the files that were on it?

    Thanks!

P.S Really need help here because I need it for tomorrow.

Edit: Also, I heard that voltage spikes can cause memory corruption on the USB stick, as can plugging it out when it is on. My house had two voltage spikes while the USB was plugged in last week...

Thanks I'm DLing now.... but what could have corrupted it in the first place? Also, I notice recuva can only view the files, not recover them completely, unless I get the full version...any freeware out there?

The last version of Recuva I used allowed me to recover the files. Don't see why it would change as it is a freeware program.

If the free versions of the apps are showing files that can be recovered, why not buy one of them? Surely if the files are as important as you say, a few quid on a piece if software is worth it?

Make sure you take a backup when you're done.

Thanks for the help guys, but I managed to actually recover the important stuff- had it saved by chance on my PC.
