Coming to the end of my stamps in about five weeks time. I got a form in the post a week ago to apply for JA.
Does anyone know how long it normally takes when finishing JB until JA is paid?

Given that my application will be six weeks in the system is there any hope of a seamless transfer from one to the other?

it took them 6 months to sort out my payment (twas like 2 years ago), in the meantime I applied to CWO and was paid by them

I was switched straight away. Was called in for a means test as I was approaching the end of my JB. Had everything I needed with me for the interview, answered all questions. Lady was very pleasant to deal with and answered any questions I had.

I didn't need to go to the CWO for a payment, I just went into the post office to collect as normal the week following the last date of my JB payment.

Assuming you don't have a recent (last 2 years) history of self employment the 6 weeks should be sufficient for your claim to be reassessed. If this is the case you should go straight from one to the other. There could be a delay of a week. If your claim has to go to an inspector you will have a delay in payment. If you contact your local office next week they should be able to let you know I'd it went to the inspector. Going to the inspector should be the only reason for a delay seeing you provided the documents 6 weeks in advance.

Sorry to hijack but how long must you be employed before you can draw your stamps. I was self employed for a 7 years and started a job only last week.

When claiming Benefit your stamps are taken from two years previous. So the stamps from 2012 while be used in 2012 for Job Seekers Benefit. Outside of this time you will have to allot for JA.

Assuming from your question you are on JB at the moment when you have the child you need to complete a firm to have them added to the claim(UP 8). If your JB is expiring once the assessment is done you go on JA. If you have no means the rates on JA & JB are the same. On JA any income from a partner will be taken into account.

I hope this answers your question.
