    Where are you going?

As a rule of thumb, I'd offer 10% less to begin with. See what the jeweller says...

    Have fun! :)

I was thinking more along the lines of 20%!! A bit unrealistic maybe! Will def have to put haggling skills to the test! Can't wait though!

Well, if you don't ask, you don't get. I'm not sure you'd get 20% though. But, give it a go!

I once went into a Hatton Garden jeweller. Saw a lovely Raymond Weil watch selling for £700. Got £400 from the cashpoint and offered him that. Walked out with the watch for the £400 I offered! :D

My advice is shop around, some jewellers will not budge on price eg Tiffany and Cartier in Brown Thomas. Other jewellers in the Grafton Street area will automatically knock off 10-15% off the price on the tag if you show any interest at all, bear in mind though that the tag prices are ridiculously high to start with!! By reducing the price on the tags they are hoping that you feel you are getting a great deal! Always compare "like with like" from shop to shop.

    Ask:

Who certifies? GIA, HRD, IGI, EGL ......
What are the cut, polish and symmetry grades on the cert?
    What is the fluorescence?
Is the stone eye clean? (can you see any visible inclusions) Do they guarantee that it is eye clean, so if you see the inclusion a week after buying that they will refund you or replace stone?
Ask to see stone in natural light.

    Happy Shopping
