    Hey lads,
I'm looking at buying new irons. The ones i have my eye on at the moment are the Cobra S3 max set. I'm playing off 28 and only starting to play to it now. playing golf about one a half years. have some lessons organised for the next few weeks.
currently playing with a set of mcgregor mx irons with graphite shafts.
has anyone an opinion of these clubs or recommendations for other irons that may be good game improvers for my standard?

    cheers,
    Eoin

Cobra S3's are getting very good reviews.
Other clubs suited to beginners would be the so called "game improvement clubs" such as Wilson Ci11/Di11s and Ping G20s.
Got the ping g20s myself and really like them..pretty easy to hit even for a duffer like myself and I'm only starting back after a few years out..

Have a read below..there's a couple of other sites as well

One thing to note is that Cobra much like Taylormade are pushing distance for their clubs etc...what is hidden away in the small print is that their 7 iron etc would actually be a 6 iron or close to it in reality. This accounts for their clubs from 3-9 etc so test them first if you can

Try Ping irons. A mate of mine has a set, cant remember the exact model off the top of my head. There a few years old now but they are offset and have the typical game improvement Ping wide sole you see on alot of them.

I have watched him hit many fat shots with these irons and where most clubs would dig up the fairway his club just seems to glide along the ground and still give him an almost perfect shot. It never ceases to amaze me when I see it. It could be 3 inches behind the ball:eek:. Def a very forgiving club

Pre-owned set of Callaway Big Bertha. Very forgiving clubs and they help get the ball in the air easily.

I have a set of Wilson Di9's and find them very forgiving.

I have a set of these bought mid last year. Was 26 HC now 23 (had knee op since but reckon I could get to 19-20 by end of year). Even won a comp last year shooting 43 on a blustery day. These are lovely clubs, definite game improvements irons , very forgiving. If you can keep your set up steady and consistent and just trust your swing, these irons will help. I started back playing about 2 weeks ago after knee op and not playing really for a few months. First week I thought I cant do this anymore, last two games though I felt although I wasnt scoring great, that my iron play had come back, beginning to feel straighter (not much longer yet) and that I've confidence to trust the yardage I assign for each club. So its all personal taste, but I highly recommend the S3 Max irons
