Hydraulic seat post - experience / recommendations

    Hi all

I'm thinking of getting my OH a hydraulic seat post for his birthday (the hints are getting too powerful to ignore!). He's a mountain biker and puts a lot of miles behind him, so whatever I get him needs to be very durable. I've had a look at different types, but I really don't have a clue. Was wondering if any of you guys have used one / have an opinion on them / could recommend brands or types.

Any ideas would be received gratefully. He says this will make him safer, and my mission in life is to keep him alive long enough to bear my children! :D

    Thanks!

These are amongst the cheapest but they still get great reviews. I'd say go for the i950 (6" version if you can) and save the lever upgrade for Christmas. You'll need to find out the diameter of seat tube that fits in your OH's bike before you order.

Reliability is pretty hit-and-miss for most adjustable seatposts but these guys are usually pretty good for warranty returns and the like.

You can't go wrong with Superstar components, but if you really want to push the boat out, these are probably the standard, by which, others are judged, quite a bit more expensive than the SS, but, in my opinion, worth it.

Thanks guys. Really appreciate your help!!

I don't mind spending the extra money to get him a good one, and if the Rock Shox one is better, I'll go for that.

Like I said, his bike really gets pushed to the limit. Would the seat post be reliable on, say, a 100k trek? Or, a 400k weekend of biking madness (which he's on at the moment!)?

Also, do you think it's worthwhile getting? There are a few things he needs for his bike, but I'm going for this because I think it's what he wants the most. If it works as well as its supposed to, I'm happy with that, but I don't know if any of his mates have one, and I'm a bit worried that it won't perform as well as it should. Because of the amount of mileage he puts it, I've seen things break down on him on a fairly regular basis, and I don't want to give him more hassle.

Thanks again! :) Sorry for all the questions, but I want to get this right.
