I'm looking to buy a new Android tablet. Currently I own an Archos 10.1 running Android 2.1 which is fine, however I originally bought this tablet second hand and it's only purpose was supposed to be for testing apps that I'm developing. As such the build quality and functionality wasn't too important. I'm now looking for a replacement as I find myself using it more and more for things that I hadn't originally bought it for, and it feels sluggish and out dated.

I'll probably use the new tablet for normal web stuff like web browsing, youtube, news and rss feeds, email and so on so but I'd like a version of Android that's more optimised for Tablets and can actually support the likes of fragments as I might start building apps for Tablets and later releases of Android over 2.1 onwards. Build quality and feeling like I'm holding something of value is important to me also. Usually I wouldn't care about this for a development environment.

I only really develop apps in my spare time and due to being quite busy in work I haven't been able to keep up with what's going on with Android tablets so I'm a little out of the loop.

So far the nicest tablet that I've come across is the Galaxy Tab or the Sony Tablet S , however before I go and make a decision I'd like to get people's feedback on what they would do in the case that they were to buy a tablet at this current point in time or in the near future if there's an upcoming release.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

If you're not in a hurry, then maybe you might want to hang on for the forthcoming Google tablet from Asus. Should be out around July. Not sure of spec, but might be a good choice call considering your dev interests.

I have the Sony Tablet. Some great features like built-in remote, PS gaming, DLNA etc. It's going to get updated software this month too. Think you can get a 32GB Sony tablet for €10 less than the Samsung Galaxy right now and there was much more to the Sony tablet in my view.
