PS1 on LCD TV's

    Hi Guys,

Is it possible to play PS1 games on modern TVs these days? I think the games display something like 320 X 200, most TVS dont like to go lower than 640 X 480.

I havent tried the PS1 on my new LCD yet, but on my previous 2 LCDs, one had no picture, the other, game pictures where just jumpy on the screen.

I know you could go the expensive route, as in an upscaler, or the cheating route, playing them on a PS2 / PS3, but that is just cheating.

I demand to be able to play my orginal PS1 on my new TV, heck I can play my 1978 Atari and it fecking plays normal :pac::pac:

I havn't had an issue yet but sometimes the screen halves (top has the game, bottom half has blacknes..) and it's really hard to see what's going on

Your PS will work just fine on your LCD, it may not look superb though, given the twin limitations of the lack of kindness shown by the manner a CRT displays pictures and also the lack of processing power of the PS means that polygonal games often look poor, poorer than you remember certainly.
Once you are going through any kind of AV cable you should get a picture, if not the tv is dodgy,
Crystal clear images are possible with better cables, be it RGB, whatever, there are minds greater than mine here that know such things.
A standard PS2/PS3 av cable will work on a PS1, so give it a shot.
Different TVs do have different hardware/software methods to up scale the AV supplied by the PS1 into the native resolution, and this can have mixedd results, depending on the TV manufacturer.

Thanks lads, must give it a go laters and see.

Pity though, the system isn't that old. Remember trying to play ISS on my older LCD TV, it was like playing it on slow motion.

It actually ran better on my pc through an emulator

Running it through a "slg 3000" kit is your best option for any HD display.

Cool man, I saw those alright, not worth spending that money for my ps1.

I will just have to use my ps2 \ ps3 and suck it in :pac:

It's going to look terrible unless you are using a RGB scart cable. I'd invest in one, quite cheap and PS2 and PS3 RGB cables will work on the PS1 as well.

Seriously though, I have never had a problem running my PS or PSone on an LCD, I have no idea what is going on there.
If the PS2 is working there is no excuse, unless your channel choice is wrong, you're looking at an RGB or S-video channel instead of the composite one, or vice versa if the cable you have is an RGB cable and the TV doesn't support it.
Have you tried a few different ports?
    What brand is your TV?

Both of them are Philips, I havent tried it yet on my new TV so going to give it a lash now later.

Must invest in one of those RGB scart, espically if you can use it for the ps2 also.

Erm... I currently using a Philips in 'Tate mode and it's working just fine with my PS and other consoles... of course, it is a CRT so the comparison falls apart somewhat at this stage :(
