Does anyone know any good specialist forums for asking questions on printer hardware issues?

Having a problem with a HP all in one, posted a question on the HP tech forums, but didn't get any reply. Going from what I've seen in other threads there, no one else is having much luck there either. So hoping someone can recommend a good forum for me.

    Thanks.

I too have a HP Photosmart printer that is just over a year old, I contacted HP help desk and was told its out of warranty and they would not put me through to a tech guy, they would at 20 pound a go, it stopped printing on Monday when I turn it on all the lights at the front flash, none of the buttons on the touch screen will work. Very disappointed with it as it has not done much work, it a photosmart C4780 series, I checked the forums and like the OP said lots of problems with HP printers but no answers.

    Hi Storm,
I understand your frustration, I've heard it all too often. I'd recommend Brother printers. Most come with 2 year warranty and more ink for your euro. Also from customer and personal experience Brother tech support guys are really good to deal with.
I can give you two options, 1. while the printer is out of warranty you still have consumer rights on goods that are expected to last beyond warrenty periods, you could contact your local citizens information and they maybe able to explain how it would be best to proceed
    2. Send me a PM, I have a shop based in Blanchardstown, you can bring it over and I will take a look at it, no charge :D

Thanks PrinterGuy for the very kind offer, I live in Galway, I will purchase a new one if it cant be fixed, I left it with a friend who repairs computers etc, I was looking at the Kodak ESP-C315 looks a decent printer as I dont need an expensive printer. I will let HP know by email what I think of their customer service.

    Hi Storm,
No worries, Kodaks are a good printer, however I once spent 3 hours dealing with a DOA, the worst call centre experience I ever had. Apart from this experience I've sold a number and in general they are a good printer.
On the negative side there are no generic cartridges available so if you are into cheaper alternatives these are currently unavailable in the market.
A good place to buy Kodak printers is here

Hi! MInd if I jump in here? I've been trying to get a Kodak C315 to connect wirelessly to my Acer Inspire One D250. I get almost to the end of the software loading process when the Printer Setup Utility is run. It recognises the printer correctly then very briefly displays a screen saying that Drivers are being downloaded which is immediately replaced by one stating that "Your printer has not been detected". Meanwhile the printer appears in Device Manager as "WSD Device", supposedly with an up-to-date Driver. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

The issue seems to be more an IT issue than the printer. I'd do the usual first de-install and then re-install to see if that will rectify the situation.

Also, take a look at this link

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/how-do-i-download-a-wsd-print-device-no-driver-was/96d5225b-ba3d-4689-9e26-376c203202f2?tab=MoreHelp

After that you can call the Kodak support number below. This number is for there Digital Products section but you can ask them to transfer you to thier printer support division. The printer support number is UK based so not practical to be calling from the Republic.

    01-407-3054

    Hope this helps

Mad busy with assignments recently, just getting back to this thread now...

Someone actually posted a reply to my query a few days later at the HP forum, and I made a new reply, but still not resolved. Here's a link to the thread, it pretty much has everything about the problem, and has a picture of the broken part, if anyone wants to have a look:

    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Other-Printing-Questions/C4480-Paper-Jam-No-paper/td-p/1389289

I don't know enough about how the mechanisms inside work, so asked the question there about the part I found broken inside the machine. To me, after thinking about it, it seems that IF the part is instrumental in changing the direction of the paper feed, and if the part is broken, and it can't change the direction, the paper remains where it is, and the machine thinks there is a paper jam.

Other thoughts are that what I understand is the paper jam sensor (a circuit board with 2 "fingers" that are tripped/untripped as the paper is fed through the unit) may be broken, but possibly unlikely, the "fingers" are intact, and when I had the machine partially dismantled, they were moving ok, and there didn't seem to be anything stuck in them.

Like I said in the other thread, I have another printer that is of a similar vintage, and the part looked the same, so might be tempted to sacrifice it for the All-in-1, or try and fix the part that broke, but that would probably break again. I'll also keep a look out for a busted one I might be able to get for nought.
