If i had 800 euro i'd get a pair of Mavic Ksyrium Elites, 425 new i think. practically the same as the pricier ksyriums. Or a pair of Mavic Cosmic SLs if you intend on doing some TTs as well.

I've a set of Cosmics and can't recommend them enough. They are great wheels and totally bomb proof. Got almost 10,000km on them before the rear rim had to be replaced - front is still going.

Crashed them too and they stayed true after locking up in a quick release and throwing me over the bars. And when I say true, I cycled 50+km on them home after this just by opening my brakes a small bit.

Best part however is the sound. They make a really good whooshing noise which is scientifically proven to make you faster!

The cosmic sl's seem to get a lot of good reviews, I have had a quick look around on price and the best I can get is €1000 for wheelset, block, tubes and decent tyres. Anyone seen any better offers on the sl's?

For 800 quid you can get a set of used Zipp tubs or a new set of handbuilt deep section carbon clinchers.

A pair of Ultegra clinchers, and run them tubeless.

What kind of money are you talking about for a set of hand built deep section carbons? I know it varies depending on hubs and spokes. Do most bike shops build wheels or can you recommend anyone? Are these wheels generally built with chinese rims and finally has anybody any recommendations for the best places to buy these rims? Sorry for all questions and for hijacking thread!!!!

Plenty of info on weight weenies about chinese carbon rims, laced up to lightweight hubs etc. A lot of folks out there are doing it.
I think one of the main threads is the sub 1000g for sub $1000 one.
    Plenty of sellers listed etc.
But seriously though, I would go for a set of Dura Ace from Jedi for 650, or splash the extra ton and get the tubeless.

    Depends on the hubs.

I think there's a typo on that page - I'm pretty sure he is building Gigantex clinchers, see here:
