    What is the best option of centralising all your media - audio, video and photos and having them available at home on multiple devices? Ideally I'd like to digitise a lot of the audio and video that I have on the shelves.

    I like the sound of an XBMC system but is the content stored on such device available to be accessed on other devices.

    It would depend entirely on the system you set up, but in general yes, it's possible and desirable to do that.

    If you just want to have a network share of your sorted and indexed files then xbmc is handy as the library can be shared over a network via symbolic links to a shared network location or (recommended-by xbmc) over mysql;

    It's not as scary as it first sounds.

    If you just want to share the stuff you can just share the folder containing the media over your network. Personally I use a usb caddy with sata drives - that way if you want to bulk move stuff you can connect your laptop etc. directly.

    Alternatively depending on what your using you can use dlna to push and share media - I find it slow to load libraries.
