    hi

I am new to this site. Hope you can bear with me. I was just looking for a bit of advise if anyone knows. We are getting a Kerry Blue puppy in 4 weeks time and was just wondering if you are suppose to restrict excercise for the first year. We have a rottie and when we got him 6 1/2 years ago we were told not to walk him for the first year in count of his growing bones. I'm just not sure if it would be the same for the Kerry Blue. I know they are not a big as the Rottie.
    Thanks:)

Hey there! The general rule for any breed of dog is 5 minutes of exercise per month of age, so for example if he is 2 months old, he should be getting 10 minutes of exercise, be that going for a walk or just you throwing a ball around for him to chase! That rule generally applies for the 1st year. Best of luck with the new pup, make sure to post pictures here for us to see :D

Kerry blues are a beautiful dog but alot of work. You need to socialise, socialise, socialise. They can be dog and cat agressive.

hi guys thanks for your replys. Socialiseing will be key. I have read and done alot of research on them. We have 4 dogs and a cat so we will be doing alot of socialising. She will be a challenge but we are ready for it. we got our cat just last september and introduced her with no problems to dogs that have never had any interaction with cats before.

you'll have a fantastic dog there with all the right work done early on with socialising. My kb is a rescue so between 1.5-2 years old when I got her and totally neglected so we do have some issues  but I can't overemphasise how good she is with the kids and us , just a fluffy bundle of fun and goofiness :D She's a big ball of energy and needs a lot of exercise and stimulation, is also very bouncy and can get over 5-6 ft walls with ease. I have no idea if that is the norm with kbs though....

Thanks littlebug. i really cant wait to get her. She is going to be a great addition to our ever growing family. 4 dogs, 4 kids a cat and a husband lol.
Thats why I was asking about the excerise. I do a 5 mile walk a day with 3 of my dogs. my pug is to old now he is 10 and can't walk to far. I know 5 miles would be to far for a puppy but was just wondering at what age she would be ok for that. I also go to our local Gaa pitch to give the dogs off the lead run also so just wondering until she can do the walking would this be ok for her
