there might be very straight forward answer to the below but am just curious

why does rte1 +1 only start at 7pm and not all the time ?

why is rte 2 in hd but not rte 1?

is there an plans for more tv channels to be launched?

RTE+1 is a timeshare channel. During the day it is RTE Jnr.

RTE2HD was primarily launched as a vehicle for Sports broadcasts including those protected on a FTA basis.

Yes there are plans for more channels especially those wanting to go HD, but it will take time and money. Money isnt exactly plentiful at the moment. As it is, TV3 owe €81m to the state owned IBRC which they cant pay.

There is a sticky at the top on speculation.
