In the CA assignment,we are portraying dcu as innovatitive/pioneer.did you know that dcu started the INTRA placements in 3rd year??.Anyway kavrocks, what do you think of the course you are doing now, what made you come to dcu to do it?in essence why dcu??

I thought UL was the first university in Ireland to run work placements as part of the curriculum. They're called co-ops down there and you're employed for 9 months.

Also, the vast majority of ITs run work placement programmes, and tend to be significantly better than DCU at ensuring good working conditions (like wages and genuine experience).

you might be right but,I had about dcu being the first to give its students INTRA from a lady in the dcu hierarchy;she was telling us what not to do's and do's about our assignment. She even encouraged us to mention it.

Why do they have better work placement and what examples is there ?

I've put down Dcu and Ucd on my Cao application and I have 1 brother in each. I thought Dcu as a more innovative modern college as it concentrates on high tech products (Biotechnology, engineering, technology, enterprise computing,Mint). While Ucd is more theory based, less practical (languages, politics, maths, psychology).

Im put off Ucd because people are telling me that if your studying its hard to see the link to real life application while Dcu concentrates on showing students how it applies to real life.
http://www.facebook.com/IrelandUniversityInnovation I seen this on facebook but I can't find out why Ucd is innovative?

This looks unreal....shows Invent, somewhere where you can link your ideas to maybe even start up your own business. Type Invent into Youtube and the oppurtunities they provide is unreal.
    http://www4.dcu.ie/invent/index.shtml

    http://www.ucd.ie/itservices/webservices/ucdconnect/
I found this innovative app of Ucd....but do Dcu not have a load of these ?
    http://www.ucd.ie/itservices/webservices/ucdconnect/
I seen this here also, if nearly all the success commercially is online why are Ucd lack so much innovation compared to Dcu.

I think I'd rather research new technology/set up an online business rather than a 9-5 where if you work v.hard or just bear amount you really go nowhere......My brother says Ucd is decent for this but why is their so little practicality for the "real world" ?

Whats the Dcu Ryan academy btw?

The Ryan Academy is a sort of incubator for encouraging start ups and entrepeneurship.

You'll also notice I said IT's, as in Institutes of Technology. As it stands, DCU sits more in between IT and more mainstream universities (like UCD/TCD etc), but you still get nowhere near the level of practical training as you would get from an IT.

It really depends on what you want from college, experience and knowledgewise.

Dcu repuation is improving big time because of the type of courses they specialise in....like UCD or trinity innovation is pretty poor,if ur thinking objectively not reputation
Why is ITs more practical ? say for business or engineering ?

as an overall picture the resaerch in ITs are streets behind universities
