Shure SRH840 vs Sennheiser HD280 vs Sennheiser HD518

Hey everyone, I'm planning on getting some new headphones, and was wondering whether to get the Shure SRH840, Sennheiser HD280 or Sennheiser HD518. Which ones are the best all-round headphones?

The SRH840 and HD280 seem to have very similar specs, but the HD518 is quite different. What are open-backed headphones like? I've only ever used closed-back.

    Thanks, Liam

The open back let's sound pass through them rather than reflecting it back at your ears, it can make wearing earphones feel more like listening without them. However they are only really good for home use, as you are basically blasting music at everyone else. You are also letting noise in.

Never use the shures, but of the other two I'd go with whichever one suits your planned usage more. At home in peace and quiet - 518s. Travelling or in noisy places 280s.

Thanks. I think I'll probably end up going for the 518s, since I'll be using them mostly at home.
