    Anyone a member of holeinoneclub.ie?

Saw it advertised during masters and seems like a good idea but quite open to fraud.

If I put the €1 a week into a jar, I'm fairly certain I will have more than €1,500 saved by the time I get a hole in one. :(

I know that it will probably never happen for me, but it's just the thought of what if it did and I hadn't joined would kind of ruin the moment. Think I might go for it.

Got a hole in one couple of years ago in Doonbeg on a par 3, made a balls of the tee shot , flew out there low and fast , if it hadnt gone in it would have gone a mile out the back of green. Thought the 3 lads i was playing with were taking the piss saying it went in the hole. Worst shot ever worthy to get a hole in one , but i didnt give a sh*te !!

Some buzz walking up to hole and seeing ball in it... priceless feeling.

I had one a couple of weeks ago in a comp in Corballis great to see it go in the hole. The chances of getting another are slim so will give it a miss i think.

Surely this is pretty easy to scam. Just "agree" with your 2 playing partners that you got a hole in one and it's €500 each?!!

I was thinking the exact same thing but the club secretary has to sign the card along with 2 other's who both witnessed the hole in and one. They then go on to say the presentation will be in your club house...i.e. if you lie you will look like a fool in front of all the members if you get found out!

Club secretary makes no difference. If your playing partners say you got a hole in one, you got as hole in one!

Surely it has to be in competition and not just a casual round where it so happens there's no one else on the course and you each tee off 100 balls from the women's tee box.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,930 ✭✭✭galwayjohn89

It has to be in a club competition. Just wondering if anyone has joined?

Won't be joining I'm afraid - it took me 25 years to get one !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 335 ✭✭VirtualNemesis

I joined a couple of weeks ago. Id be sick if i got a hole in one and hadnt joined. I think it has potential.
Alothough i can see how people would be a bit sceptical. but it seems legit. i looked though the website and they have offices and all.

I think it's about 15000/1 to get a hole in one. Payout of 1500e dose not exactly add up to great odds really.

I'd give Paddy Power a buzz because I think they would nearly give better odd's...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,331 ✭✭✭mike12

Someone told me that are a lot of T&C like the hole has to x long, it has to be in a drawn comp can't be with your mates so read the small print.

i took a good look through the F.A.Q before i signed up and think i worked out how they work the odds or price

it works out at about 12c a go on a par 3 based on playing twice a week and an average of 4 par 3s on a course.

i dont mnd them odd :D

I don't think it's a viable business based on those numbers........I'm out :pac:

How did you work that out? It's €1 per week not €1 per year !!

So if you play twice a year in your example you have 8 chances at about €6.50 a go.

Me on the other hand who plays 5 par 3's twice a week would have 520 chances at 10 cent a go. But since I've been fortunate enough to have 2 holes in one I don't believe I'll ever be that lucky again !

Whats you handicap..? I presume it's low enough to put you into the 5,000 to 1 bracket for a hole in one. That should have given you 1 every 10 years playing at that rate.

If your better than that then your beating what the statisticians say, but don't let it influence you thinking you have two and that's you tapped out. That idea is actually an incarnation of the gamblers fallacy, already having two holes in one has absolutely no impact on what happens when you step up on the tee. All the shots are independent events.

    Fair play though, 2

AFAIK your golf insurace covers you buying drinks in the clubhuse after a hole in one.

Story I head few weeks back a lad in our place got a hole in one and came into the bar to see only a few pople there. Got them all drinks but they were all driving so only had one. So he whipped a load of wine from the bar for the golf insurance to cover.

Got told a week later he didnt have golf insurance and had a pretty big bill haha

Yeah the 12c a go is based on playing twice a week and with an average of 4 par fours on a course.

obviously if you only play twice in a year with 4 par fours that is 8 chances which will mean that each shot is €6.25

everyones circumstances are different some courses hav more than 5 par fours and some have lest than 4. So having 5 to play twice a week works out better.

getting 2 already... id go for the hattrick

Considering the odds involved it's pretty hard to get excited about the prospect of €1500...

I believe this has changed for 2012, the Golfsure Insurance no longer covers a bar bill to the value of €250 following a hole in one and instead offers some sort of entry into a ridiculous lottery draw for alternative prizes. Pretty poor development I think since the insurance would alleviate some of the financial strain on getting that elusive ace.

Out of interest, where did the whole tradition of having to buy a round of drinks following a hole in one originate? It's somewhat illogical as don't think a player scoring a hole in one should be significantly out of pocket due for striking one sweet shot.

Chartis moved away from the €250 bar tab to a draw.

Aon still provide the €250 bar tab cover.

All depends on what insurance company your club went with.

Your name suggests to me that you didn't get a hole in one at all, whether it be wet or something you put a golf ball in.

(depending in what country you're in that could be the same thing!)
