You can do it yourself. Just get some nylon cord (elastic will do if you can't find it) and hang the drive from a 5.25 bay.

Thanks was looking at that method but time is a problem as I can't have the PC off for more than a very short time. Thanks for the post though

You wouldn't have to have it off at all. You can tie all the cord in the bay before hand, then - if you need to - turn the computer off to untangle the SATA and power cables, then you can turn it back on, and push the hard drive into the cords. It would be off for less than a minute.

only downside to this type of thing is heat. should be fine if your case has good circulation

I see, in that case it sounds like it definitely worth a try . I'll go looking for some cord tomorrow. Thanks again

Changed to a Seasonic power supply today and its made a huge difference in so far as the HDD is now the only thing making noise.

For reference, you want it looking like this when you're done:

Is it possible to suspend HDDs in a regular 3.5" bay? I don't have a any free 5.25" bays to spare.

@Tony, what model Seasonic are you using? How do you find it regarding the noise levels?

I'm think about replacing my Corsair HX850 to a Seasonic X-660/X-760 or possibly a SuperFlower Silent psu (fanless).

The Corsair is the only component that u can hear in my PC and it's starting to get on me goat!!

Its the 430 W s12 80 plus bronze and the noise levels are very low . When I was researching though the corsair seemed be well regarded too .

Thanks Tony, I was under the impression that the Corsair PSUs were quiet but its 140mm fan is annoyingly noisy all the time.

Its not bad as PSUs go but I'm looking for the quietest PC that I can put together, so I'm seriously thinking about a fanless PSU. Not too worried about noise when gaming or other intensive tasks but the fan in the HX850 is on all the time even when sitting idle on the desktop doing nothing.

The Seasonic X-660 etc fan only comes on when is necessary i.e under load but I'm leaning towards the fanless SuperFlower 500W Platinum rated PSU. Hopefully electronic noise/coil whine won't be an issue.

    Thanks again,
    Moo

No problem. I'm also thinking about going to a Solid state hard drive when I get a few quid together , hopfully I'll be able to copy the current drive onto it to reduce noise even further.

Yeah, I have a SSD as my boot drive, highly recommended, makes your system really snappy and obviously silent.
